Comfy 1st Gear August 20, 2007 Share August 20, 2007 u r just making comments that sided u. singaporean speak english just because government here set it as an official primary language. that's y u all learning english since primary school and chinses as secondary language. u should use the same method to think about other countries. malaysian government set malay as their official language. so malay is the primary and english + chinese are secondary since their school time. this theory applies to indonesia, thai, china, japan or as far as italy, france, spain and germany. this is their culture. we can't change them. once u r there in their territory, u better think of a way to communicate with them, rather than scolding them stupid for not able to understand your english. u should be the one to change to adapt their culture. sadly to say that i found most singaporean are chinese but they just can't speak and write good mandarin or even know nuts abt it, yet still proud of themselves speaking english everywhere. they lost their ROOT. this is a very sad thing to mention. but when its regarding service industry, its always nice to know that we could communicate better, don't we? ↡ Advertisement
Mattchlai Neutral Newbie August 21, 2007 Share August 21, 2007 (edited) but when its regarding service industry, its always nice to know that we could communicate better, don't we? -------------------- if they can speak english then it will be a plus point for you. but you have to understand that every regions have their own culture. is it wrong that they speak their local languages to protect their culture? i personally feel that everyone should be proud of their own culture because u can't find it everywhere, it is unique!! basically the road signs in malaysia are almost the same as you can find in singapore except those reminders in malays. if u r a frequent travellers to malaysia, just remember them and it is quite useful. u can remember so many road signs when u prepare for the theory test, i just can't understand why u have problem to remember a few more of the malay road signs? at least they are still abc that you know. wat if u drive in thailand? no more 26 alphabets that you have known since your childhood. But again, it is their turf, they do they own ways whether for the better or for the worse and we are just outsiders. Regards.
Meecar Clutched August 21, 2007 Author Share August 21, 2007 EXACTly we sillyporean always think we are the BEST or NO 1 we got this problem that we cannot loose out or be beaten when you travel enough and learn about others you will come to realize just how small we are we may be riches nation in the neighbourhood but all these years what have we done for our poor and not even taking about helping our neighbours we claim to be number 1 this and that sure what is your salary i am sure when we combine all the salaries here among the forumers together cannot match some of the pay and pay elites so for once lets be respectful of our neighbours and keep our critizicism to ourselves lets just be helpful instead and be a good driver when we are driving in our neighbour's backyard
