Invigorated Supercharged May 12, 2009 Share May 12, 2009 Thanks Ferraricalifornia Did some research...hehe..wow the Cruze is already launched in Europe and think i stumbled across some links about Chevy using them as racing cars... Din see them in the F1 here? or do they race in other countries only.. BTW should i consider the Optra @ 38,999 ? any advise? The magnum, like orangie had said, is stripped of a lot of features. The interior also looks dated. Suggest u wait out for the cruze instead, more refreshing and could possibly be more value for money. Since it will be sold aside optra, I guess the optra's price will fall too in the near future.

Windchoco 1st Gear May 13, 2009 Share May 13, 2009 (edited) To me the Avante is still a better deal... even though at the NSH at 150km/hr , the difference between a "Korean-designed for angmo chassis" and the "Korean-built to challenge Jap chassis" is v obvious.... Think Optra is more for ppl who really appreciate heavy and stable - "conti" style feeling... Edited May 13, 2009 by Windchoco
Volotamp Neutral Newbie May 14, 2009 Share May 14, 2009 I tested the Avante. Didn't like the super light steering. Ang moh styling??? With the exception of the dash light, the car is nothing to shout about. Took a friend's Optra up to KL last year and it was such a good drive I ended up getting a speeding ticket!! haha!! It does have a very stable conti feel compared to the Avante. For that kinda of price right now it's really a steal man. Sigh, if I hadn't bought my car late last year I would really consider man. No need to stretch payment to 7 years, can finish in 3 ;)
Stary Turbocharged May 14, 2009 Share May 14, 2009 I have been driving Optra for 5 years now, and it's a very robust car. Handling and stability is very good but it comes with a price of a higher petrol expenses. Before this, I have been driving Jap cars...didn't like the light feeling of it. I don't feel safe with a Corolla at 140km/h, but with the Optra I can do 160km/h on the NSH without feeling a thing. The car also has a very roomy interior for a 1.6 For a 1.6L car, you really can't ask for more if they really price it at 39k. No doubt the interior is dated and lack of bell and whistles, but if all you want is a good performance stable car, then 39K is a steal.

Avante is definitely more bouncy than optra at high spd... but if u seldom go Msia leh? Avante got far better FC than optra.

Windchoco 1st Gear May 18, 2009 Share May 18, 2009 (edited) what is optra FC?? i tot around the same as avante? abt 12km/l? it cant be very much of difference. Avante anytime also more than 12km/L, avg 13. Optra is v v hard to hit 12km/L.. a more reasonable estimate is 10km/L. But its just the weight ma... heavy car how to have better FC and power..? its just what you want in a car.. FC is not impt consideration at all if u r not travelling a lot. Overall, current Optra is v good deal is u just wan a 1.6L tank (all chevy cars got hard hard heavy metal, safe-feeling) , interior is not too boring for u and FC is acceptable to u. Not to forget, Optra got "racing Heritage" in some WTCC or what... hehe Edited May 18, 2009 by Windchoco
Cracker 1st Gear May 20, 2009 Share May 20, 2009 I owned the Optra (M) from Jan 05 till Nov 08. First 6 mth was a nightmare...me probably had a lemon.. Had utlised their 24 hr emergency service numerous time....they were so familar that upon mentioning my car plate...they knew where I am staying.. Finally all the problems were solved after the unforgetable period.. Parts changed included : 1) ECU....( what is the chances of this unit failing within 6 mth?) 2) ECM ( sth like the ECU..but controlled lesser function...my ride had changed this item 3x) 3) Aircon blower ( 3x...could hear the bearing noise !!) 4) Fuel injector ( 1 of the 4 injectors failed..and they said the failure is 1 in a million..should kena TOTO by now) 5) Driver's Power window died on me in 2007 Driving wise..was quite OK.. I was driving an EK3 before changing to this Optra...cos backside was itchy and EK3 was bought when COE was still skyhigh...So at tat time it was either Optra, Altis or Megane. I knew the FC wont be good due to the weight of the car...however the distance from my home to office is only abt 10 km..so still Ok..ave was 12km/l ( quite poor for a manual car) last yr I started to work in the east..me stay in the west...so daily trip is almost 70km..everyday is AYE, ECP . managed to obtain close to 14km/l. In Nov'08. me changed to a Stream due to expansion in family...and the good thing with a 1.8l car..I am still getting 14 km/l ..hehehe
GoodCar 4th Gear May 20, 2009 Share May 20, 2009 Review after 3.5 years. My Optra(A) was 3.5 years. FC about 12km/L with tire Pressure at 30 to 31. If tire pressure goes down, FC goes up. No major problem since new, only one battery change because tire of topping up battery water. Now using maint free battery. Car was very comfortable especially when travel up north. another plus point was the rear seat, a lot of friend said it was spacious. Read from somewhere that 2 million optra were sold in China since 2003. This car is still in their top ten list in Chinese car website. Recently, I accidentally left the dome light on overnight, a few days later found the anti-thelf device, all cabin and trunk light not working. even the trunk open button is not working. T The RPM and speedometer also "jump" to 3/4 position before settling back to normal position, when I turn the ignition switch to "on". Was quite worried initiately because warranty has just expired. after checking the fuzes, found out that one fuze in the fuse box of the engine compartment was blown. Spare fuse was used and everything back to normal. Soon I will need to change my timing belt, hope everything is still smooth after that. I still enjoy my ride today
Cracker 1st Gear May 20, 2009 Share May 20, 2009 IIRC, those who took delivery of their ride from late 04 to prob Jan to Mar 05 will have some issue... One of the most famous was the fuel sensor...where the fuel gage will drop to 3/4 even though it is a full tank. My ride fuel sensor was changed 3x !! I believed my car was a lemon...and it was boiled down to a faulty ECU which the local GM dealer or Starauto refused to believe till I sent a complaint all the way to the President of GM Thailand's plant...Imagine having your brand new car being towed away from your carpark !! In fact, my friends would always ask "So what is the latest problem in your car ?" After all the faults were rectified,,the drive was good...went to Malaysia once...and the car was very steady when cruising along the NS highway. Nesh Neutral Newbie May 26, 2011 Share May 26, 2011 (edited) face lift, new door latch, more aero dynamic, but the old version was found more worth paying the moolah as it was a bigger car by exterior compared to the magnum I have the older version, my inlaws have the magnum version. In terms of driving experience, no difference. for mods, both have plenty of options that make this a very powerful and stable car in the 1.6 arena. Yet to hear of a fatal accident or turning turtle. Fastest speed achieved on non-magnum : 190km/h straight road Malaysia North/South highway, highway turnings : 170Km/h. Stable and in absolute control.
