i see that going to FL and spending on luxury cars are lesser vices compared to gambling in MCF

 

now all guys have the perfect excuse for the former 2 activities

Due to the recent CNY, found myself visiting the casino a lot. see the need to kick it before the real addiction sets in.

 

it is so distracting in my life that i am constantly thinking of the losses, possible opportunities and all those irrational thoughts.

 

beside calling the quit gambling hotline, what are some of the ways or lifestyle changes that i can take to distract myself from the thoughts of going to the casino again....

Yalor, should be % of disposable income, not absolute figure that matters. If people like Peter Lim want to spend 10k on football bets every week, sup sup water. I do that and I am a serious gambling addict.

well ... the amount varies from individual to individual.

 

me not really not into betting save for the occasional Toto, 4D, Big Sweep.

 

last year put $20 on Germany ... should have followed the boy's father ... put ALL on Germany ...   [:p]

 

I'll be surfing MCF from Banyan Tree or Club Med somewhere .... sipping some exotic juice by the poolside ... 

 

But I see some aunties / uncles at Singapore Pools ... $200 - $300 for one weekend ...  :o

 

to me that is excessive.

share a true story here (again).

 

i drove taxi PT on weekend. one of the sunday morning (saturday midnight 3am), it was drizzling at MBS. i saw a guy standing under

the rain without an umbrella along the road waving for a cab. i started to scan him from a distance fearing that he could be a drunker.

he looks like a drunker becos he was not standing steadily and one side of his pants was folded, and the other was not. his pants

looked like those wore by a trisaw uncle. he was wet from the rain. i see him sibei koh lian, took me a few seconds to decide to stop my

cab for him so that he could go home earlier and have a good rest.

 

the following were our conversation.

 

he: "uncle, can i pay by nets?"

me: "sure".

he: "tonight sibei sway, play simi su simi. bring $18k, lost $18k...haizz."

me: "aiyo, dont gamble la, save the money for your family."

he: "uncle, i just couldn't stop after losing so much. i used to make $10k+ a month and now, i lost my job and my wife."

 

blah blah blah...

 

end of the trip. he took out his nets card, i swipe the card twice but declined. than he dipped into his pocket and pass me a few

crumple notes worth only a fraction of the total fare. to convince me that was all he left for the night, he even empty out his 2

pockets to show me that his pocket is kosong liao. not even a 5 cents coin left. [sweatdrop]

 

i sat solemnly behind my wheel looking at the back of the guy walking away from my cab. he looks so lost (lost $18k) and still

walking with one side pant shorter than the other. i think our govt built 2 casinos to create jobs. it also taking away jobs and creating

some problems.

I still remembered this classic line I told my gf(now wife) when we took a 2 days 1 night gambling ship redeemed from pacific Internet many years ago. When on the way back to Singapore where we transfer to a smaller boat to go back, we saw a few aunties and uncles all in a daze. And I tell my gf, 他们心事重重。All these uncles and aunties all look similar. Skinny, dry, dressing untidily. Obviously they didn't sleep, didn't eat and drink much and spent the whole night gambling. These are the typical gambler look. Deep in their mind they are still thinking about the money they lost, what might have been and how they are going to 翻身。
