Hi, ICE newbie need advice:

considering audison LRX4.5 ( RMS 70wx4) and rainbow CMX 265 component ( 150W ) for my active setup, one of my friend told me the LRX4.5 is not powerful enough to drive CMX265, LRX4.1K ( 130wx4 RMS)is just nice, but it is more expensive, any comments on this? thanks

My takeaway, many points to consider when matching equipments. List below is inexhaustive.

1. What is the nominal handling power of your CMX 265, I suspect 150W is the maximum power you can load on the speakers before it explodes.

2. What is the sensitivity of your speakers?

3. What is the true power rating of the amplifier?

4. What is the output voltage of your HU?

5. What is the watt per dollar ratio you are willing to pay?

Just how much power is enough? Giving it just enough? Giving it more than enough? Don't give it more than what is enough? crazy.gif Nobody will have a definite answer. Best is to hook it up and listen for yourself, you are the consumer and you have the right to compare. wink.gif

Hi, i'm also thinking of changing to either Audison VRX 6.420+Focal FP1.80 or Focal FP5.50 + Focal FP2.150, which amp is more suitable to drive my K2P upgrade and BE 3" mids? I'm running 3 way active and a single coil focal sub. So i would would need at least 6 + 1 monoblock channel, Focal FP5.50 has 4x75 + 1x300 at 2 omps mono channel, i'm afraid the mono channel not powerful enough to drive the focal sub.

Both setup around same price.

I listen to mainly pops, classical and alot on vocal.

Cheers

I don't think 300 RMS at 2 ohms is sufficient for Focal Sub and I believe focal sub is running at 4 ohms (Single 4 ohms voice coil) instead of 2 ohms. Perhaps you can consider DLS Ultimate monoblock instead. As for VRX with Focal 3 ways, I have experience before I feel that it is a bit on the bright side instead of warm. VRX has it builtin crossover as well and the crossover do not allow you to pass it so you'll have less flexible to cross it using your HU. As for Focal amp, I do not have experience.

I suppose your K2P upgraded is refering to the TN52 tweeter and the Kevlar 6.5" midbass. What is the size of your sub, is it the 8-incher one and it is still multi-magnet right? Study into the spec of your drivers as what I have mentioned in my previous post. Put the price issue aside for the time being and study the matching.

Hi, the sub i'm using is SB27V1, its a single coil sub, anyway i try it on the 5 channel focal amp, it sounds ok to me. Its 11" in size and comes with orginal box from focal.

I also find that the Audison abit too bright, the focal amp is more warm.

I also feel that the focal amp when match with focal speaker can perform better.
