Madsumm 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Yes. Beldens. Go to LKS in Sim Lim Tower 2nd floor near the escalator. Ask them for the best coaxial cable for your cable. Its not too ex.. but the quality improvement is good. Rgds ↡ Advertisement
David Clutched August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 SH Digital Box c/w coaxial cable and the RCA cable(Red/White for audio and Yellow for Video). This would very much depend on your TV set, but these days tv set do have this option. If your set have this option, then connect your digital box to the tv set via these cable. Caaa Clutched August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Seems like you have good knowledge about Plasma & LCD! Care to advise: while all would say Plasma consume moe electricity than LCD, but how is it compare to a CRT? Let say a 42" Plasma vs a 34" CRT? And do plasma have radiation just like CRT? Pardon my ignorance....thanks for advise
Madsumm 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 I would say this in terms of consumption of electricity (Most to the least) 1) CRT 2) Plasma 3) LCD Take into consideration,... SAME SIZE FOR ALL. For your 42" Plasma and 34"CRT.. I would guess CRT is more. Need to look at the specs for consumption. For radiation, hands down.. only CRT has it. Plasma and LCD doesn't. Caaa Clutched August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Kam xia for info Me also waiting to buy Plasma/LCD....waiting for my 34" CRT (3 years old) to failed Was told before Plasma is just like a compressed CRT since most thing about the same (except burnt mark) where LCD would have respond time, unreal image etc.... So wait till my CRT fail, could only see see look look and happy to note each time I check, prices is lower
Khhyu Neutral Newbie August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Not really, for plasma, I think it comes with anti glare type of coating on the panel, so it should not be that bad... if that is the con of plasma, then watching tv prog on LCD that is not on HD is even worse. I own both LCD and Plasma, so I'm not just comparing spec but from end user's experience as well. I just bought a Samsung 46" HD panel LCD TV. The channel U, art centre and the CNA was suck (a lot of grain) but the channel 5 and 8 are ok. Is they any ways to improve the picture quality of the channels? Madsumm 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Haha.. btw.. i no expert, just got some experience in this when i purchase and see HD and plasmas/LCDs. Burnt mark is no longer an issue with the latest Pioneer Plasma. So go for that instead. If you just bought your CRT 3 yrs ago, u will likely need to wait another 5-8 years for it to "expire"..... :)

Anyway, dun have big budget for TV....maybe around $2.5-3K max, so unlikey can get those with "latest" technology or may in 5-8 years time, newer stuff appear? Sony 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Bro, My 5 year old LCD projection TV just konked out again (bulb blown and already replaced once 2 years ago).... need to quickly get a replacement as I don't wanna keep having to do a bulb replacement every 2 years or so. (Its a Samsung Tantus model BTW). Anyway, do you have any recommendation on which to get( Plasma or LCD) and also the model? I want a big screen (46 to 52") but also don't want to spend too much. The Bravia from the website puts it at SGD$16K for the 52" .... that's way, way above my budget. What's your take on the Pana 50" (TH-50PV700H or TH-50PV70H)? Any indicative price to feedback? I haven't had the time to run about the various shops to check them out yet. Thanks for your assistance. BTW, you sell the TVs??? No, sadly, I don't sell tv. I was a buyer that did homework, thus I know a bit here and there. If you wanted 50inch or so, it's going to cost like 3 to 5k. From the comments, I would go for Plasma. So it's either Pana/LG/Hitachi. B&O got one but it's 46K if I'm not wrong Anyway, go to any departmental store and check the price. it shdn't varies a lot. Sony 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Sony and Bros here, Is there such thing as using a better coaxial cables to connect my starhub digital box, i heard it would reduce the noise further and improve picture quality. yup, go to Sim Lim or Adephli to check it out. but by how much the improvement, it really depends on how bad your current cable are
Sony 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 ya.. buy a new plasma or wait for the channel to turn HD. at times, you need to check on your tv signal connection. Sadly, there's little you can do (from what I know) except better cable.. Others might have some solution if they used LCD.
Sony 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 No lar... nowadays.. CRT will go up lorry in less than 5 years if the QC is not done properly, otherwise, yes, it's 5-10years
Sony 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 (edited) nah... you can get a very good 42inch LCD/Plasma at 2 to 2.5k budget. You just need to know where to buy and what to buy revive this thread when your CRT up lorry BTW, burnt mark doesn't occurs these days as the technology have improved.. those are old grandmother stories from the initial generation of Plasma tv. Even energy consumption of Plasma have come down and setting it at the correct mode will means it's just slightly higher than LCD.. Cracker 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 LCD is better Its so obvious that plasma is losing this game the no. 1 bane of buying a plasma is that it doesn't support PC input. Even panasonic's viera has to keep coming out with "reasons to choose plasma over LCD chart" I got Sony Bravia V series 46inch. one can argue that the contrast ratio blah blah for plasma is better. but come on, LCD is the way to go. Look at Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, Samsung, LG, Sharp and other big players, they have stopped producing plasma and concentrate full force on LCD. Err.. my plasma has PC input. And even support 1080p/24 frames cinematic quality. The basic misunderstand is the that both are very different technologies. For movies, its Plasma that have the best "experience" because of how its built. LCD is better for static images coz it has a tendency to have ghosting effect, thus reducing the effectiveness of refresh. Plasma has one issue though, higher electrical requirement as compared to LCDs. For the last sentence u put in is in fact not true. There are basically only 2-3 LCD panel makers. The rest uses one of them. I belief LG and Samsung, even sony uses the same panels. (base on my last knowledge) Comparing it with Plasma, we have basically 2 makers as well, pana and pioneer. Pioneer is already in the 7th generation panels, whereas Sony/Samsung it only to its 4th. Development itself, LCD still has a way to go to beat the quality of plasma in terms of TV/Movies arena, though LCD beats Plasma is presentation and PC applications. Rgds The major supplier of LCD panels are from 1) Korea : LG/Philips & S-LCD ( Sony & Samsung joint venture) 2) Japan : IPS (where Hitachi, Panasonic/JVC get their panels), Sharp 3) Taiwan : AUO & CMO In term of panels shipped....the top are : AUO, CMO, Samsung & LG-Philips. I subscribe to newslettr from www.displaysearch.com where they will send weekly summary of the latest happening in the display market... the latest email from them..stating stagnant in the shipment of plasma panel while the demand in LCD is increasing.. If u can dig up some technical report,,,the problem was plasma makers need to spend more to make Full HD panel compare to their LCD counterpart. In fact, Philips had decided to stop their venture with LG in the plasma biz,,but focus on the LCD panel instead. Pioneer and Panasonice are trying their best to recover their lost market share to LCD...Panasonic believed anything above 37" should be Plasma, hence their LCD only stopped at 32".
