(edited)

I am not sure about audio shops fixing it but I guess they could. For me, i will suggest you bring it down to Pioneer's service centre @ Alexandra (it's inside Komoco).

The last time my 8450 sliding face belt snapped, i brought it back. Service is good and parts are reasonable priced.

By the way, do take the whole HU unit before going in... They won't dismantle for u. [sweatdrop]

Yep, my set was 3 years after warrenty.

I paid around S$40+ for the repair and they also serviced the CD reader.

Got it back within a week of sending.

Audio shop will advice you to go Pioneer servicing centre.

2 scenario here:

1) Eject belt broke

2) You CD wrap inside the HU due to greenhouse effect.

I changed my HU the last time because the repair cost is not worth it. And mine was the latter.

Well, the audio shop I went to was kind enough to loan me a temp set.

But my scenerio was a one time thing. Because I was installing the Harmon/Kardon idrive in the car, the face of the HU must slide down to enter in to AUX mode. And since only after installing the whole idrive, then realised that the AUX mode couldn't be accessed if the slide face did not come down.

So, they loan me a set while waiting for the 8450 to be ready.

i don't think its my eject belt broke.. cos when i pressed the button, there was no sound.

the button works just like my "esc" button. normal playing is my OEL.. when i press eject, it shows the track list, time etc.

so i think the button "shot" or something.

that means, you went to your audio shop and got them to dismantle your HU (labour maybe $30), send it in yourself to Pioneer service centre ($40), collect it back yourself and pay audio shop to fix it back again?

Hmmm...seems like the 8650 always got this problem huh..

i also had this problem, my friend also...now you....

But yours seems to be different.

For, i occasionally will have this CD not able to eject problem.

But when i press the eject button, there's a sound, only the faceplate doesn't move...

The simple solution was just to press eject, then use my finger to knock the faceplate hard enough for it to get "unstuck", and the disc will eject itslf after that...

This happens a few times a week until i got used to it :)...soemtimes just knocking will cuase it to work...maybe you give that a try?

Neutral Newbie

Your problem is different. The installer had used too long a screw to mount the HU into the bracket. The front screws are jamming up the arms of the sliding face. Change to a shorter screw or take the screw out to file it shorter.

Eh, nope...the scre is not the problem because the installer is ME...and i didn't use any screws because there is no bracket...

It's just a typical 8650 problem...it's got tons of weird problems that plague it....hehe...good HU but tons of little snitches here and there...got rid of it thankfuly hehe

i sent it in to the service centre.

$90 for labour (cos mine's export set. i din know when i bought it 2nd hand from a bro [bigcry]). else i could have been charged just $30 for local set repair.

$15 thereabouts to replace some cable.

hopefully can get it done today.

there was a display problem with my OEL as well. Lines running across. is it an inherent problem or is it due to wiring? i looked at my cable.. fwah.. its a mess!
