Silveratenza Neutral Newbie July 25, 2007 Author Share July 25, 2007 I agree with you bro, to certain extent... Some car models did well in radical change, others just cannot make it. Take example of BMW and Porsche, no matter how many generations of their car models, you can still easily recognise them from far. To some this is bad as they may say not much changes made, but to some others, this is good as it retains that iconic branding looks... As for some others, esp Korean and some Jap makes (sorry), they are bold enough to give them radical change whenever a new generation of a particular model is launched (eg. Sonata, Accent, Magentis, Vios, Impreza, etc). It make them look fantastic, but to some, it may have also lost it's traditional iconic looks as well. So it's very subjective to different people. For Civic, I do agree that the present 8th gen is definitely a drastic change compared to previous few generations, and I would say it's a good change! And they have kept the iconic "H" brand intact as well... All thanks to the clever Japs that designed the JDM models for Civic, if not for that famous "H" logo up front and famous "Integra-like" rearlights, many people would not have recognise it as Honda or Civic for that matter. If you compared to the models in US (4dr) and Europe (5dr), the looks is simply too drastic to link them to previous gen of Honda cars... ↡ Advertisement
Silveratenza Neutral Newbie July 25, 2007 Author Share July 25, 2007 Actually Mazda has done well for the recent launch of cars like the 2, 3, 5, 6, MX-5, RX-8, CX-7...which gives them a significant identity from other brands... At least people has better impression of Mazda cars for their sportiness, good-handling, reliable and good looking cars... Guess the 1st wave of "zoom-zoom" really did well for them... However, as what the CEO of Mazda mentioned, the new 2 has set pace for their 2nd wave of "zoom-zoom" and this new 6 is to follow suit. To me, they have lost their "Jap-sporty feel" and "Euro-robustness" in these new launch (2 and upcoming 6). They have just made their cars look more elegant and luxury look with some sportiness throw in...(what Ford has been doing all these while and NOT DOING WELL FOR THAT MATTER!!!) If Mazda is to go against the likes of Toyota and Nissan for that luxury feel and elegance, they will have a mountain to climb...esp when the brand is not as strong... IMHO, if you can beat them, you have to be different...
