Do you believe in layering or is it quite pointless in S'pore?

Hi Justic5,

Step 1-4 is what i normally do. But i only clay when necessary (ie, feel the paint while washing, if rough, clay, if not, no need)

For your step 5, i assume you use a liquid wax? I would replace it with a cleanser instead to prep the surface further so that the sealant can bond with the paint instead of a wax. This is because a cleanser can remove dirt we cannot see and feel.

Also note that most sealants do not work well when applied over wax. If you want to use wax, paste or liquid, use it after sealant.

For weekly maintenance, use car shampoo, amt to use to vary according to how dirty your car is. The purpose of shampoo is to lubricate so as to minimise the amount of scratches that you might accidentally cause while washing.

Hope this helps [thumbsup]

The soft99 clay is pretty good. I think there are already plenty of threads with suggestions on how to use a claybar. But i'll just summarise how i use mine.

1. Tear/Cut off a small chunk of the clay. Keep the rest in a container with water + abit of car shampoo. Wash and dry the car.

2. Either use QD or a spray bottle with water+car shampoo to lub the surface of the car.

3. Going in the direction of air flow, gently slide your claybar along the surface of the lubricated car.

4. Remember to fold and mould the clay to 'refresh' the surface.

5. Work on it panel by panel. And wipe dry the surface after you clay to prevent water marks

6. After claying, use you favorite polish, sealant or wax to finish.

Hmm, that's just how i do it la. Other people have their own ways. Maybe you can go down for 1 of the MDDS sessions to ask the more pro people. [thumbsup][bounce1][bounce1]

Hmm, not really say 'roll'. More like 'slide' the clay along the surface. Don't have to press down with too much force. If you see there are grits or road tar bits stuck, what i do is juz slide the bar back and forth..like using eraser

Of course can use on the windscreen. I even use it on my rims at the end. Just be careful not to drop the clay. If you do, usually have to throw away and use a new piece. Dun wan to drag dirt all over your paint.

About cleaning the surface, some people will wash their cars again. For me, i'll just wipe clean with a cloth. Because i'll still be using sealant and polish after i clay. Up to personal preference. Hope it helps. Have fun! [thumbsup]

I was wondering whether you guys do multiple layers for your sealants or waxes. I realised that no matter how many layers of sealant you apply, the slick and thick feel will surely disappear after a super HEAVY downpour.

When I ran my fingers across the paintwork, the paint feeling became very thin and not slick the least bit. So I decided to just AIO and wack one layer of sealant like Klasse or 2180. After the rain, the feeling is the same as compared to 3-4 layers of whatever protection. I always thought that layering and layering will give a super thick gloss and protection but the bloody rain so powerful can wash off everything damn it! [furious]

What you guys think? Polik kings Maddriver? Coltagious?

best way to keep your car in tip top cond. is by regular DIY maintainence eg. weekly car wash & DIY polish.
