After some time when the excitement in a technologically advanced car wears off, you will start to appreciate your trust worthy, simple and hardy Lancer and the SOHC engine.

 

Reasonable costs to repair and maintain.

 

Technologically advanced cars are good to have, but when the electronics go hay wire, you will know what I mean.

 

 

Can't go wrong with lancer EX. 4 speed auto may be outdated, but it's trust worthy, unlike some 7 speed DSG gearbox. [rolleyes]

 

I thought Mitsubishi auto gearbox not reliable. Will up lorry at least once in the ten year period.

I think the gb under 5 yr warranty. But i more concerned abt the CVT. Have to service at AD regularly to make sure the car dun give problems otherwise i sure point finger at them

Lancer EX gearbox is 4 speed auto, same as Suzuki Swift and Toyota Vios.

 

The 2015 Toyota Vios engine is the same 1NZFE VVTi engine used in the year 2000 Corolla (last of the 9th generation japan made Corolla). Outdated using 15 years old technology, but definitely reliable and trouble free with ease of maintenance.

The 2015 Toyota Vios engine is the same 1NZFE VVTi engine used in the year 2000 Corolla (last of the 9th generation japan made Corolla). Outdated using 15 years old technology, but definitely reliable and trouble free with ease of maintenance.

this engine good bro. fc reasonable w good pickup when installed in this era corolla when I test drove w 3 bigger sized frens weighin no less than 80kg. some more that time also 4AT.

This engine is also used in the 2005 Vios when it was launched in S'pore. Having driven both the Japan assembled G9 Corolla and Thai assembled Vios, the same 1NZFE used in the Vios sounds coarse and not as refined, and the cabin is noisier.

 

Evidence of difference in built quality between a Japan and Thai assembled car, although the engine and gear in the Vios is claimed to be sourced from Japan.

Rear brakes on the 1.6 Lancer - still drum brakes like the 1.5 version? Anyone can share? Couldn't find the info on Mitsubishi website...

Yup, still drum brakes like the 1.5 version both front & back

Not bad front still have disc. Not bad for the (old) price still. Thanks

 

Standard mah. Front is disc, rear then depends. But for me, I cannot accept drum brakes in this day and age. Safety is one, aesthetics is another. Hehe.

Just had a bizarre experience with Mitsubishi Singapore on Thursday (7 Jan 2015). Decided to share this so that everyone can be more careful when dealing with them. 


I visited the Mitsubishi showroom last week and was quoted a trade in value of 33k by the friendly agent. He assured me that the trade in value would be "locked in" for 33k for 3 months.


Contacted the agent via SMS again on thursday (7 Jan) after the COE result was out the day before. He assured me that the 33K trade in value was locked in and I could still trade in at 33k. ( I still have the whole string of sms-es if anyone wants to verify). He then called and informed me that the price for the new Lancer EX was 89K. I asked if that was the price for the Classic version or the Sports version. He told me that the new Lancer EX Classic version (which new price was 87K) was out of stock and recommended me to the Sports version which was obviously more expensive (89K). I told him I did not need the features of the sports version and had been looking at the classic version all along. The call then ended.


My friendly agent then called me back after 10 minutes and told me that he had consulted the management and they were willing to sell me the classic version (which all along had been on the catalogue and the latest price list). Nevertheless, I agreed to head to the showroom later in the evening after he told me that the selling price might change again in the week, depending on how the other auto companies might come up for the auto show next week.


Reached the Ubi showroom at 8pm with my family as we were all excited with the new car and found my friendly agent waiting for us at the entrance. He then pulled me to the side and informed me that my trade in value of 33K, which he assured me it had been "locked in" in the afternoon, had been "unlocked". My friendly agent and a purchaser from the company then told me that because of the unexpected large fall in COE price yesterday, the trade in value had dropped too, regardless of whether the value was "locked in" or not. They then quoted me a new trade in value of 26k. After that, they moved on to check my car. They told me they were rather satisfied with the condition and could increase the value to 27k. The purchaser then left me with my friendly agent to discuss the other details.


My friendly agent then moved on to explain the price to me, the discount that were already in-built to the new listed price etc etc. I told him that there was no way that I could buy a car which I have to fork out 6k more in cash just in the timespan of one afternoon. The "locked in" value that was promised to me and assured to me in the afternoon was "unlocked" and there was something that I found unacceptable. I told my friendly agent that we could still strike a deal if we could each give in a step. I told him that I could still consider getting a Lancer if the trade in could be 30k. My friendly agent told me that he could not make the call and needed to check with his boss. He then went upstairs to the office and came down again later to tell me that his boss refused to give in and maintained the value of 27k. My family and I then left the showroom, feeling cheated, misled and of course, disappointed.


My friendly agent then called me a few minutes later after I drove off and advised me that another way that could work was that I sell my car off on my own and go back to purchase the Lancer after that!


I was totally lost for words. 


I am totally disappointed with Mitsubishi after the incident. The "locked in" trade in value that was promised and assured to me in the afternoon was not honoured. Not only that, my family and I made a wasted trip to the showroom. My friendly agent could have informed us of the change earlier in the day to prevent my family from leaving the showroom disappointed, not knowing what we had done wrong.


I had left a similar message on Mitsubishi Singapore's Facebook page and they gave me a standard reply to ask me to email to their customer service. I have emailed them but have not heard anything from them again since then. I am not expecting any reply from them anytime soon, if ever there is. On the other hand, I have sought legal advice and am considering settling this via the legal channel. Oral and SMS written agreements could be considered as legal binding too. 


I advise everyone to be more careful when dealing with C&C and Mitsubishi Singapore, especially given that the motor show is round the corner. Sales agents (and probably the company) may not honour and deliver what they have promised and give you all kinds of excuses and reasons. Please be careful.
