Parking coupons at Night

Hi guys,

Would want your comments on this.

I'm sure many of you must have noticed that in public carparks they have a sign that states the rate per hour.

In most carparks, they state that it's $1 per hour 7am to 10pm (outside CDB of course). a) Some then stated that Night parking is $2 from 10pm to 7am.

b) Some state parking at night and public holidays and sundays is free (this is in Orange).

c)Some don't state anything at all about night parking beyond 10pm.

So my questions are :

1. For (a) If i don't park for the whole night, but just from 10 to 10.30pm can i place a 50 cent coupon?

2. For © do you need to place a coupon at all? If so then why don't they state it explicitly that is requred like in (a), and conversely if not, then why not be explicit like in (b)? If coupons are required, is it the 50 cent ones or the $2 ones?

I tried writing to URA about this, and after 2 weeks of waiting, all they can ask is which car park i am refering to. As if this was the best avoid answering the question. No help at all.

Share with me your thoughts.

Check yr 50cent and $1 coupons...I think now you can park all the way till 11pm. After 11pm...its $2 nite parking coupons.

If carpark did not state O'nite parking ($2), you park and put coupons also kenna.

In other words...match your nite parking to your hourly rated coupons and you will see that they basically got all hours covered.

Note: HDB & URA practise 2 different ways in displaying the signboards.

Night Parking:

HDB: U can place $0.50 coupon for 1/2 hr parking up to max $2 for overnight parking

Overnight parking signboard must be shown. If no state, no overnight parking allow

URA: If never state anything about parking beyond 10pm, then its free

If state $2 for overnight parking, then u hv to show $2 parking coupon

Hi all,

Just to add, I was at the HDB branch office to buy the whole day coupon and I'd enquired on the Night Parking as well.

Apparently Night Parking is not covered by Public Holidays. Meaning is today and tomorrow is a Public Holiday, we still have to be covered for the Night Parking.

Or for car parks that has free Sunday parking, then from Saturday night onwards till Sunday 7am, we still need the Night Parking coupon to be displayed.

"HDB: U can place $0.50 coupon for 1/2 hr parking up to max $2 for overnight parking

Overnight parking signboard must be shown. If no state, no overnight parking allow

= meaning must place $1 coupon per hour from 10pm to 7am?

URA: If never state anything about parking beyond 10pm, then its free

If state $2 for overnight parking, then u hv to show $2 parking coupon

= Sounds good, but before i do this where did you get this info from?"

Sorry, i never noticed this, but how can i tell if the carprk is run my hdb or URA?

$1 per hour, up to max $2. Eg. If park for 3hours, also $2.

Just check out other cars parking in the same place, see if anyone put coupons.

Stated on signboard. URA manage carparks not in HDB area. Eg. carparks in Orchard area

If never say nite parking it means only season parking at nite only...they will not explicitly state no nite parking for non season parking holder...even if u put nite coupon also no use....my carpark is like that lor

Call the parking enforcement unit at 62771409 to ask when ever you are at a car park when you are not sure how is the charges like. Ask them to tell you, if they can't tell you, then how are they going to do enforcement?

This is a 24 hrs number.

Thanks folks for all your feedback.

What miffs me is why the lack of transparency on night parking. Why can't the 2 bodies can't just lay it out plain and simple - instead of letting the public guess.

You got to be precise which carpark you referring to mah. So generic how to answer.

For (a), park 30 min, 2 hr, or whole night is all $2. The instructions are very clear alredy.

For ©, very vague, I have never seen this unless u can tell us where.

My question was a general one to them. Yes perhaps i should have gotten the actual carpark number, but given that i'm not the only one confused about this, i think URA and HDB should publish this in an FAQ on their site.

Perhaps they'd rather the public make the mistake and get fined than to bother with this.

If don't have $2 coupon, possible to place 4x50c coupons to replace?
