As a new comer , I notice that "Korean" would mean Hyundai or Kia .

Nobody has anything to say about the other major group DAEWOO .

Or nothing good to say ?

Comments welcome .

Incidentally I do have a Daewoo .

I believe Ssangyong was under the DAEWOO umbrella once , but could be out again due to the financial problems at Daewoo .

I have a Leganza for almost 3 years now , practically problem free . [inlove]

Chosed a Manual , still don't have confidence that an Auto box can last the distance .

Relatively problem free, and quite perky, if I may add [sly]

Just my 2 cents...

Hyundai owms Kia FYI. [scholar]

Anyway, just by eye-balling the diff korean makes, it looks like hyundai's ahead of the rest in terms of style. I dunno abt the rest, but test driving the sonata has convinced me tt hyundai has improved leaps and bounds.

btw, how's ur daewoo doing? which model? how old? give us an update... [:)]

I owned a Daewoo Espero 1.5 Auto since day 1 for 9 years, apart from normal wear & tear, the car is alright. Just upgraded to Hyundai Trajet as my family have grown. So far so good..... [thumbsup]

cheers [sunny]

as i know, all the car makers like brothers.the eldest is Hyundai,Daewoo,Kia n Ssanyong. so if they in difficult position, one of them will 'rescue'.so its everyone taste of the models n liking.

Hi Worker,

Welcome to MCF, we hope you enjoy your stay with us and do join us for meetups.

Aside: Having to try both Accent and Daewoo... I'll prefer Accent. Or rather Hyundai.

Hi Fulcrum, its exactly 1 month old. So far so good. Gearbox crappy? Don't know yet, since it is still new. Only thing is the pick up abit slow @ 1st and 2nd gear but then we must understand that the body weight of the trajet is very heavy. When on 3rd and 4th is smooth sailing all the way.... [cool]

Did not hear many good comments about the previous generation of daewoo. But i guess the people who made those comments either did not take care of their car properly or are used to what jap cars can offer.

personally, i find daewoo cars styling improved a lot........and I wouldn't really agree that Hyundai has the best looking korean cars around.

getz and matrix are nice, but I wouldn't say the same for accent and trajet. I find the daewoo tacuma quite nice.

by the way, there are reasons why daewoo is not so popular now.

The knowledgeable ones avoid it because they know daewoo is now german engineered (owned by GM now) and hence maintenance cost will not be as low as the true blue korean hyundai and kia.

The less knowledgeable ones avoid it because jap cars are now relatively cheap and they still have the notion that daewoo is not a reliable car.
