Yuan 6th Gear July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 Dear all, Just a newbie question to ask bros and sis. Can brake fade occur in normal road usage and street driving? My current brake is such that the pedal travel feel is a bit spongy and when I depressed my pedal to stop the car, it still can stop lah but not effective. Yesterday, I almost hit a car cos I step on my brakes but somehow my car couldn't stop and I had to stomp on my brakes a second time for it to stop.....I ask one experienced driver and was recommended to upgrade my brake system and which I am looking around now. I constantly tap my brakes and brake very often and sometimes can be hard. Still on stock pads and stock hose and stock rotor. I just service my car (20k servicing) 6 weeks ago and my stock pads are still okay and good as informed by the mechanic. ↡ Advertisement

Silver_blade Turbocharged July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 Then it could be moisture in the brake system. To replace the brake fluid may just do the trick.

Yuan 6th Gear July 9, 2007 Author Share July 9, 2007 How did it have moisture?
Silver_blade Turbocharged July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 Over time, some moisture (from the air) will get into the brake system. But your mileage looks to be low for that. Best to have it checked asap..for any leak, brake pump failure, etc...
Yuan 6th Gear July 9, 2007 Author Share July 9, 2007 Wah! So dangerous. Can even happen to new car?
Yeobh 4th Gear July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 Brake fluid being hygroscopic, overtime will gradually loses its heat resistance and absords water from the air, via the reserviour breathers and flexible hoses. Get yr mech to test the brake fluid for moisture content and if it is on the unsafe side then flush the whole system and pressure or vaccum the system to make sure the system is 100% free from air bubbles. ↡ Advertisement
