Acpc Neutral Newbie June 29, 2007 Share June 29, 2007 i intend to use denon dct-1 as my headunit..it is a pure deck. my question is: 1. should i connect the headunit direct to my amp or should i go thru a processor like alpine 701? 2. is there other processor option beside 701? 3. does 701 has the inherent hissing sound problem? any feedback is appreciated cos this is bugging me for the last few days and couldn't decide which is the best option. many thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Spinworkx Clutched June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 That will depend on what you want the processor for. If you're not intending to run 3 way active or to have any TA and all that stuff, then you will not need a processor. The Denon is a good pure deck and wasn't made to do TA and things like that. You can connect a 701 to it but i don't think the Denon has an optical output so you'll have to connect it to the 701 via regular RCA connections. You will then be able to go active and do all sorts of EQ and TA adjustments BUT i'm pretty sure the pure deck's output will be comprimised some what because of this. If the Denon is 24bit then connected it to a 701 will lose it's 24but qualit cause the 701 isn't 24bit. So the question is do you want to have the pure deck's sound to sound just as it is or do you want to add EQ and TA to your sound? If you want a good sounding deck with these features, the nicest i've heard so far would be the Clarion D2...
Sarong1 1st Gear June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 DCT-1 is good, nobody will deny it but the limited feature is one thing that put people off for some other brands. Spinworkz has sum it up nicely for you.
User12343 Clutched June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 to add on, the H701 has inherent hiss if u are not using the optical inputs. if ur denon has no optical outputs, forget about the H701 and listen to it as-is.
Hyun Neutral Newbie June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 hi user... is the H701 hiss "inherent" in its analogue (both RCA + Ai-Net?) inputs (i.e. nothing we can do about it), or is due to many people running high voltage (above 4V) into the RCA input? Hyun Neutral Newbie June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 (edited) their 990 processor isn't affected huh? good buy good buy ... btw, this Ai-Net connection, is it analogue or digital? Edited June 30, 2007 by Hyun
User12343 Clutched June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 dunno, you go buy one and try and give a FR on it. Ai-Net is both digital and analog. digital for the bus-control signals and analog for the audio signals.
Protege 1st Gear July 1, 2007 Share July 1, 2007 AI Net and Optical does not has hiss. Only RCA has....
Protege 1st Gear July 1, 2007 Share July 1, 2007 Try not to use AI Net for signal as if you are using AI Net on lets say W200, the signal will still be process on W200 (meaning converting digital to analogue on the W200) and then the analouge signal will be fed into H701 where it will be converted to digital and processed and then out on analouge again. Therefore for H701 to be most effective, optical cable is the way to go as digital output is straight into H701.

Sorry to deviate.... then is it necessary to have a processor if I do not want to change my stock HU (I do not intend to run 3 way active). Just want to have a 4-ch, a monoblk, front components & sub. Thks. ↡ Advertisement
