Hungee Neutral Newbie June 26, 2007 Share June 26, 2007 Hi All, Any comments of the above ... interested in this model as it's bigger than the A-class, yet still cheaper then the mainstream Merc models (C, E, S) ... the 1.7L version also helps abit in rd tax as compared to B200 :) Thanks in advance ... ↡ Advertisement

Pringles Neutral Newbie July 8, 2007 Share July 8, 2007 Hi, I recently bought the B170 and allow me to share some of my opinions: 1) Slightly underpowered but it gets along. In fact, I've seen several B150s in Paris. 2) Considering that the C-class is around $159k, the B is a steal. 3) quality is top notch. The Ipod interface is not that well integrated 4) the circulation function bugs me. It would switch off after 30mins to 'allow' for fresh air. I don't like it because it reduces the cooling efficiency of the air con 5) Very Spacious 6) easy to drive due to higher seating position. However, it is a little difficult to gauge the front. Was told that C&C won't be bringing in anymore B200. Price had increased despite the recent dip in COE.
Hungee Neutral Newbie July 9, 2007 Author Share July 9, 2007 Hi, Thanks for the valuable comments ... what's the price now ? Cheers
Watwheels Supersonic July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 It's cheaper cos it's FWD compared to mainstream RWD which is more ex to build with the rear wheel axle and transmission shaft. The platform I believe is very much base on their van. Cheap...yeah.
Ahbengdriver 6th Gear July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 (edited) I was considering getting a smaller conti n test drove the B-class. All I can say is other than the interior infinishes which are of better quality, u should be not much diff buying a cheaper mit colt. Behind is too small for golf clubs The steering wheel is so light u can drive with 1 finger which is not gud for a conti brand like merc, I have a problem with cars with steering that are too light. The power....err hmm, what power? Edited July 9, 2007 by Ahbengdriver
Pringles Neutral Newbie July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 I believe the price is now 109,888. However, I'm not sure if the specs are the same. I bought the first batch which came with the following: Ipod interface 17in wheels roof rack (quite useless for me) chrome trim $500 boutique voucher of course the SE threw in a few other sweeteners. Just one comment about power. It's funny how we Singaporeans are so power hungry, it's not as if we have much room to push the car. Many europeans go for small engines due to high prices of petrol (right now at around 3.2 S$ per litre).
Echodeltax Neutral Newbie July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 I like this car too! Anyone knows what is the FC? What about the backseats legroom? Spacious compared to Toyota Corolla?
Hungee Neutral Newbie July 9, 2007 Author Share July 9, 2007 (edited) maybe most singapore drivers are power hungry ... cos many drive like F1 or 2fast2furious ... just yesterday saw a silver civic zip in and out of lanes, forcing other cars to move out of lane so that he can over-take .. same for Getz this morning along SLE-to-CTE ... sigh ... with more power they can out-muscle other cars !?!! for me, extra power comes with a price .. so must strikw a balance between power & wallet Edited July 9, 2007 by Hungee
Pringles Neutral Newbie July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 I've just pumped up the tank once so far and didn't exactly take note of it. I'll do some data collection and let you know. Doesn't give me the impression that it's thirsty. As for legroom, I think it is one of the best in its class. In fact, from the professional reviews, it rivals the S class. Certainly more room than the C (old) and E class.
Pringles Neutral Newbie July 15, 2007 Share July 15, 2007 Found out something recently. When cruising along the expressway at around 110, the rpm way hovering at around 2000rpm. However, when I switched to manual, it goes to 7th gear which brought the rpm down to about 1800rpm. I think this would be very good for the FC. Roguehog 1st Gear July 16, 2007 Share July 16, 2007 i recently tested both he b170 and the b200. i found the b170 too sluggish. there's a moment of nothingness when u depress the gas padel at standstill. tat was one of the reasons why itried the b200 after that. the steering is far to light for my liking. yup, kinda felt like the corolla - one finger driving. the 200 is far more responsive. what i like about the b170 and b200 space. responsiveness (b200). power (b200). lower road tax (b170). what i don;t like cost. (B200). light steering. i'm 1.83m tall. this is one of the few cars, besides the civic, that someone can actually sit confortablly behind me. i'm stll thinking if i should pay anoher 11k for the responsiveness and power. also, i'm wondering if the fc wil actually be higher in the b170 rather than the b200 as the frmer is more underpowered. btw, care to share why the pod interface is lousy? Pringles Neutral Newbie July 17, 2007 Share July 17, 2007 Agree with it being sluggish but I think 11k is a lot to pay for shaving a second off the 0-100 sprint. Ipod interface: No display on the main ICE screen. It's on the multifunction display on the instrument cluster. The only controls are on the steering wheel and they are not intutive at all. In fact, the forward and backward buttons are in reverse order. For example to skip to the next track for CD, I'll press the up arrow. However, for Ipod, it's the down arrow and somehow I can only 'forward' the selection from Z-A. Kinda weird. I might go to C&C to check it out when I find the time. Cyano Neutral Newbie July 24, 2007 Share July 24, 2007 Want to check with the B170 owners here...how much is the regular servicing (eg. 1k or 10k) at CnC? Warranty is valid only if it is serviced in-house right? Thanks!
Carbon82 Moderator July 28, 2007 Share July 28, 2007 Price still the same 2 weeks back when I check out in the showroom. If my memory don't fail me, it is already more ex than before. End of last year, B200 also selling at the same amount (with the free upgrade from A190 offer).
Carbon82 Moderator July 28, 2007 Share July 28, 2007 FC should be ~12 - 13Km/L as long as you don't floor the pedal every other day. Legroom in the rear better, if not the same as Corolla (depending very much on how tall is the front occupants), due mainly to upright seating position.
Carbon82 Moderator July 28, 2007 Share July 28, 2007 Was told by SE that servicing interval is at 20,000Km, and cost ~$600 per servicing. So cost about the same as a normal Japan car (>1.6L) ↡ Advertisement
