Hi,

Juz wondering if it is common practice to leave your car and keys with the workshop for repair/repaint services without any proper handover documents? [sweatdrop]

Wait suai suai, tiok smuggled away or god knows what might happen to your beloved ride.

Is this widely acceptable? Any experience on such?

Same here. But guess they didn't produce any document to you to ack they were in custody of your car that time, right?

normally this is the standard practice.

Try to always stick to a mechanic. So as time goes by there is trust and i'm sure you will feel more at ease.

For a start look for ur good friends recommended ones :)

Maybe you might also be worried that the mechanic might take your car for a ride and then commit traffic offences etc.

But for my case, such concerns have not really crossed my mind.

i am always very upset when i send my car for servicing by ad

sometimes when I get back my car everything is changed like radio and GPS setting

I dont mind they try it but please return them back to the original because I cant remember how to reset it

even when i need to change a battery from the street side shop they will always bypass with another battery so that my settings will not be disturbed

I feel that AD have this attitude

see you dare go outside and repair

if can't repair dont come back to us

there is noone more experience and well trained as us AD

I guess i do not have a choice

i am at their mercy

what about mileage?

How do you guys ensure that they do not take our car out at nite and burn fuel on it?

Take picture of the mileage before and after?

As i only let my reliable mechanic touched my car..i do not face any problem.

For some workshops, they actually take down the mileage of the car before taking over from you. (just like wat they do in the AD service ws).

U can record down on ur own, if it make u feel better.

i suggest u go to someone u trust n are comfortable leaving ur car wif....

no such things abt "common practice" in workshop... there's no such fix rule abt this n tat between workshops/garages

u can jus jote down the mileage before u handover the key to the mech...n compare it when u return to collect it..... few kms more is ok, since some fault require some road testing...

why make life so difficult for urself, no point sending to a place u have doubts it only end up making urself feeling uncomfortable & worried the whole day.

car is an over-priced asset to every owner... whahaha...jus too bad life really sux down here

Make sure the workshop have enough insurance coverage on fire and break-in. Many shops cut corners and don't take such blanket coverage. In an event of fire or break-in and yr ride is completely destroyed, for pte ltd companies you may notbe able to get any compensation. If it is a partnership or sole ownership , you can still sue the individual owners at personal level.

What you need is simple memory back up device, powered by a 9volt battery that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. All you headache is over [laugh]

The unit will supply the necessary voltage to the keep-alive memory chip and other circuits - like radio, keyless , seat setting etc. Once you have plug in the device, you can go ahead and dismantle the battery. Depending on the type of systems the device has to do back up, the 9volt battery ( very good type like Duracell) may last from 20hrs to 50hrs.

For shops they may use units powered by 12 volt car battery or plug direclty into 220volt wall socket
