Devilac Neutral Newbie June 20, 2007 Share June 20, 2007 There are crackling sounds from the tweeters last night on my 3 weeks old db speakers. What could be the cause? Guess I need to go back to my installer. ↡ Advertisement

Devilac Neutral Newbie June 20, 2007 Author Share June 20, 2007 Using the stock Kenwood HU. Not sure whether it is pasive or active, cos I left it to the installer to do it. Basically, I have a 4 ch amp, 2 component speakers for the front, and 2 coxial for the rear. The funny thing is, the speakers were fine up until yesterday evening (they were installed last month), when there were crackling noises. Argh.. Will call them up to let them take a look. Devilac Neutral Newbie June 20, 2007 Author Share June 20, 2007 (edited) hmm.. I'll be driving down to the installer tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be rectified. Edited June 20, 2007 by Devilac
User12343 Clutched June 21, 2007 Share June 21, 2007 my guess is that installer never put a crossover block between the HU and the speakers. it is important that when a full-range amplified signal MUST go thru the crossover block, which separates the low freq from the high freq before reaching the tweeter. if this is not done, the low-freq will kill the tweets in no time, which u mentioned that just after 3 weeks of install the crackling sound appears. if that is the case, then the tweeter maybe fried and demand for a free replacement, as it is installer's negligence. Devilac Neutral Newbie June 21, 2007 Author Share June 21, 2007 Ok, I was at the installer just now to try to rectify this problem. The installer had isolated the source of the sound to be from the right tweeter only. He tried replacing the crossover initially as he had suspected that it might be faulty. He then tried fiddling with the connections, and finally the settings at the amp for almost an hour. It did help as the crackling sound disappear. So I drove off, thinking that problem solved, until 5 minutes later when the crackling sound appeared again! Arranged to drive back on Saturday, when he'll try again. Sigh... ↡ Advertisement
