Does UPGRADING inevitably means BIGGER engine capacity?

Frankly, I find your train of thoughts incoherent.

Upgrade does not mean larger cc

2L? We're talking more, with some considering TC and SC. Some 2L NA and even SC engines (like M271 1.8L SC) have better FC than 1.6L cars. Newer Merc V6 engines also feature better FC even when they're at 2.5L, 3L and 3.5L ver.

Power is not about climbing hills. It's about enjoying our rides. Some may only enjoy with copiuous amount of power, others may be less.

I think in singapore context, upgrade mean u buy a more expensive car compare to the one u own, eg. buy a 50k car den upgrade to 70k car den upgrade to 100k car and so on... Here $$$ talk

How about upgrading to a 'green' car, i.e. hybrid...save petrol and save the earth... [thumbsup]

Neutral Newbie
not bigger CC. if can go faster means upgrade.

If drive a rex now, later change to a BMW 3 series, it is downgrade? Because Rex is faster? [hur]

it was not a thought to begin with but instead it is just a question

respect your opinion what upgrading means to you

but that also mean a significantly higher road tax and probably higher maintenance cost

I guess we must try to be happy if not life is not worth living

thanks

thanks but there are some postings here that contradict your observation that higher cc will have poorer fuel comsumption

i guess upgrade is a very personal matter

To some, the idea of a car is for simple transport from point A to B.

While that is possible even with a low cc/low FC/hybrid/less powerful car, the journey getting there might not be enjoyable to some, it could be in fact very straining for the driver, keeping pace with fast traffic, moving in and out of tricky situations, etc.

And as with most drivers, we all tend to start out small, start out low of the CC scale, usually beginning with 1.6l, because first off, our finances are tight, budgets are low. But given the opportunity and blessing of accumulated wealth/savings, some drivers prefer to have a less taxing(physically) ride, and to be able to travel from place to place comfortably in a vehicle that provides comfort and some degree of luxury.

Finishing and built quality wise for most 1.6l cars sad to say are still on the bottom scale, especially when u line them up with the big cc boys. Naturally, larger luxurious and well-furnished cars weigh heavier and inevitably require a larger engine to be able to provide that less taxing drive that we seek.

Unless toyota can come up with a 1.6l engine that produces bhp equivalent to that of a 3l engine, while at the same time being well-furnished to the likes of say lexus. Then by all means i'd be able to UPGRADE with no expense to higher roadtax/FC etc.
