Yeobh 4th Gear May 29, 2007 Share May 29, 2007 (edited) I understand there is a local distributor for Coleman products in Singapore. But up to date I am still unable to locate them. PS You will need a high volume pump to get the inflatable up preferrable powered by 12volt or 220ovlt Edited May 29, 2007 by Yeobh
Cheongtako Neutral Newbie May 29, 2007 Author Share May 29, 2007 really? coleman in SIngapore? ok, we look together and share info. Yah, a bit of work to inflate. some more has 8 chambers. but the double powered handpump selling for SGD8 at toyrus should be fine.

Chilli_crab 2nd Gear May 31, 2007 Share May 31, 2007 Any news about its availability in Singapore? I'm keen to purchase it too if the price is right. Would such kayak be allowed in the reservoirs (like Bedok and Lower Seletar) where the People's Association has already set up commercial water sports centre? Celicapimp Neutral Newbie May 31, 2007 Share May 31, 2007 I believe these are allowed. Did you read the news of kayak capsized and a man was drowned few days back at seletar reservoir?
Chilli_crab 2nd Gear May 31, 2007 Share May 31, 2007 Yes, I read the sad news about the incident. The kayak was rented from the PA Water-Venture outlet. So, are non-customers/non-hirers of PA allowed on the reservoir with their own equipment? I would think this is allowed, but just want to confirm. Don't want to end up bringing all the stuff there and be barred from using.
Celicapimp Neutral Newbie May 31, 2007 Share May 31, 2007 maybe you can find out more from this website.Check with them http://www.scf.org.sg/Canoe/SeaKayaking.html

Spenz Neutral Newbie May 31, 2007 Share May 31, 2007 I am interested in getting a touring kayak, but think they must be registered? Can probably only use it at east coast or sentosa... the reservoirs probably allow only their own boats? Anyone got info or lobangs on kayaks avail here? Stash 1st Gear May 31, 2007 Share May 31, 2007 hey this brand is bloody good..... i would like to order one.. maybe we can do a group order and save on shipping...
Jasonllh Neutral Newbie June 1, 2007 Share June 1, 2007 i think this kayak is for still water rafting, not open sea or moving waters. the fact that it is inflatable and open concept kind of seating means that it is highly unstable. pls use with care. Chilli_crab 2nd Gear June 1, 2007 Share June 1, 2007 I just called up PUB to enquire. You are right that personal kayaks are not allowed in the public reservoirs. For safety reasons, the water-based activities must be administered by a properly-run vendor, which is the PA in this case. So, that leaves only the beaches for personal kayaks. Anywhere else? Chilli_crab 2nd Gear June 1, 2007 Share June 1, 2007 Thanks for the important reminder about safety and stability. I came across http://www.inflatable-boats-n-kayaks.com/ while looking for info. It says inflatables are rather safe too. Of course, one still has to be careful when actually using it.
Spenz Neutral Newbie June 1, 2007 Share June 1, 2007 Canals??? The inflatables are a safer bet if each air chamber is separate. In any case, any good sport carries a risk. But without risk, where got fun?? Enjoy
Genie47 1st Gear June 1, 2007 Share June 1, 2007 (edited) Forget it. These inflatable ones do not offer you the maneuverability of a real canoe/kayak. Wilderness Systems make very good canoes/kayaks. Damn expensive too. Like any stupid company, once they got something right, they replace the model soon after. The Piccolo is the best from WS. Small enough for kids or Asians. No longer in production. http://wildernesssystems.com/ Wilderness Systems' Tsunami Touring canoes from Wilderness Systems. Basically the Tempest and Northstar series. http://wildernesssystems.com/category.asp?id=4 Singapore has not much fun and adventure when it comes to canoeing. Check out Paddle Asia. They use the WS Piccolo and the kids love it. They give good reasons why you shouldn't own an inflatable if you are serious into kayaking. Trust me, I've used inflatables. They maneuver like trucks. Not something you want to move around in the water. Edited June 1, 2007 by Genie47 ↡ Advertisement
