Hi all,

The tweeters on my component speakers seems to get softer and could hardly hear any sounds from them. The 6.5" speakers are still okie and they are 3 yrs old.

Me using low end component,Pyle is the brand.

So shd I change the whole component set or juz change the tweeters?

A few possibilities...

1. The tweeters' got worn out over time, or affected by weathering...hot sun does a lot of damage to tweeters, esp metal domes.

2. Your amplifier may be the culprit.

3. Someone (maybe even yourself) might have messed up your HU settings, e.g. EQ or crossover.

4. You are getting old, can't really hear high frequencies...lol...kidding

If you are running passive, i suggest you change the whole component, cos just changing tweeters may not work as well with the crossover. If active, can consider changing the tweeters only. [;)]

Hmm, based from your Point 1 my tweeters are constantly under the hot sun and I park at open air carpark..lagi worse !

Think can consider change a pair of component speakers liao.

some tweeters have a viscous ferrofluid tat has fine-grain ferrous powder suspended in a gel. this ferrofluid serves to (1) cool the voice-coil (2) magnetically couple between the vc and magnet. so if under prolonged heat, this gel might dry up and hence sound softer.

Guess prolonged heat is the main culprit for its declining sound quality.

Its time to source for a new pair .
