But how many of you guys have actually owned one of these wonderful Conti cars and not suffered from their poor design, bad QC and unexpected component failure, before you deride others for making sweeping comments?

At least for me, our 2 yr old french conti (enjoying every bit of the ride) and OPC Kia rio is not giving me any major problems so far. [sweatdrop]

Thats y buying a car is a very personal choice. Just like marrying wife [;)] There can be a 101 reasons y you should marry her and also 101 reasons why you should marry another woman.

But in Singapore when we can hardly afford to have a second car, we cannot afford a car that happy happy cannot start, on highway happy happy cannot shift gear, happy happy this, happy happy that, end up the owner not happy.

Reliability is very important because we have to work daily and don't have the time to frequent workshop.

That is true. You have a point and I totally agree with you. However, as mentioned, different people have different expectations and different needs. Thus, lets not make this thread into a conti vs jap vs kor or MY or wateva thread. [thumbsup]

The problem with Citroen

the repairs are a killer

then there are hardly any repair shops that can do a decend repair especially their suspension

[laugh] U dun know doesn't mean dun have.

I like your balanced view, unlike many other people here..blinkered and navigating solely by blind faith [thumbsup]

Having said that, nothing sets my heart fluttering more than a hydropneumatically sprung Citroen, and nothing is more cossetting and balming than a ride in one, especially the older, softer models. But I am still suffering from a bad case of shivers after my last bad experience...I will need time to recover and regain courage..hehe!

Cheers! [sunny]

No no no. We are not starting a war over Jap and Conti owners. It was never the intent.

I am just saying that as current Jap owners, in our hearts, we may love Conti but it takes a lot of guts to take the plunge into Conti.

Bro, I happy happy with my new french car, pray hard it doesn't happy happy play on me. Really enjoying the conti comfort ride and its stability which my previous 2 Jap cars cannot compare in this area.

Well, thats the reason why i made that comment in my posting [;)] There has to be come trade-off here and there. You pay more for the comfort, features, handling & safety for a conti.

I agree, generally, contis might not be as reliable as their jap counterparts, but one has to see beyond factors like reliability when buying a car.

Can I improvise one of your reply:-

Usually people who make such comments are run-of-the-mill jap car owners whom have not driven one to understand how such "disadvantages" can be easily overlook with the drive, handling and feel of a conti.

Cheers [:)]

for those who switch to conti usually stays with conti, if the cost is really that high and with so much problems, they must be idiot to make the mistake over and over again [;)]

If you have read what is written in the Opel forum, you might want to note that the so-called majority are only a minority few. and given that this is S'pore, people only complain about bad things and hardly give any compliments to the advantages.

But if you are a no frill, point A to B person, then stick to those common cars. I must admit that the QC of the Japz are still top notch compared to conti.

Why are there so many buttons on what I presume is the cd-player... [sweatdrop]

Let me guess, coz quite similar to what I have.

9 buttons for the preset FM Channel.

The other buttons on the other side are for:-

TP - Traffic announcement (not applicable in Sg)

RDS - Display channel in their name such as Class 95, Yes 933, etc

REG - can't remember

AS - Auto Seek

Then there's Bass, Fader, Balance, Treble, etc...

Guess that's about 60% of the buttons there.. [laugh]

Man, that was good [thumbsup] Thanks [wave] A very entertaining review indeed [laugh][laugh]

Did not get to fiddle with the levers yet, but I must admit these are the stuff that made things interesting in the Citroens of old .... and looking at the CX brings back such fond memories [inlove]
