Sky8807 1st Gear June 2, 2007 Share June 2, 2007 What are the tolerances for the average car? just did an alignment today and my L/R caster difference is 0.42deg, camber 0.1deg, king-pin (what's that?) 0.3deg, and incl angle (?) by 0.38deg Rear camber is quite alot at 1.06deg difference... but not adjustable 1deg doesn't seem much, but 1deg of camber is quite obvious... so i'm wondering how will 0.5deg difference affect the handling, or is considered negligable? The differences are quite an eyesore, but was told that besides toe and camber for front, the rest can't be adjusted. You result look not so good. But I think normal handling shd not be a problem. Most of the jap car are slightly out, if not more that 1 deg it's OK ↡ Advertisement
Yc86 Clutched June 2, 2007 Share June 2, 2007 Why not so good...? Is it normal for cars to be really symmetrical? mine's a coe jap car anw... shake abit the camber readings zhao liao
Sky8807 1st Gear June 3, 2007 Share June 3, 2007 It's coe car, then acceptable. After sometimes (abt 8-10K) the rear tyre may show sign of uneven wear.
Zenixth Neutral Newbie June 3, 2007 Share June 3, 2007 wheel rotation is process of swopping front tyre with back tyre to achieve a even tyre wear every 10000km so that in the long run yr front tyre will not be "bald" when yr back tyre is still ok. wheel balancing is a process normally they take out individual tyres, put in a spinner and spin. then put some small counter weights at the rim. Wheel rotation n balancing is 1 process. it cost normally around $20. As for wheel alignment, KMC told u to do wheel alignment so that can avoid wheel not aligned and incur higher fuel cost? that's rubbish! its the other way round, after hitting kerb serveral time on yr front wheels, yr wheels not aligned, then u do alignment to FIX the problem. free servcing rubbish one.. free labour only. Is there any difference between off-wheel balancing and on-wheel balancing? Is the price at Stamford Tyres at the Caltex service station reasonable if using the Starcard? Chuablalan Neutral Newbie June 3, 2007 Share June 3, 2007 if you hit kerb often, i suggest you have to do it. As the aligment was off. if not, think do need.
Yrvt Neutral Newbie June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 I've been driving my forester for 1 year (20K mileage). Everything seems ok no vibration and tracks straight so never thought of doing wheel alignment. However last week I had some time to kill and drop by stamford tyres for 4 wheel alignment. when I saw the results almost fainted. the rear right had -ve camber of more than 12 as compared to the other 3. So my advice is get a wheel alignmet done straight out of the car showroom. Cost is only $60 from kenny.

Sony 1st Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 (edited) i changed coilover few months back, few days back just changed new set of rims and tyres, is it necessary to do alignment. Feel that my steering is ok. It's highly recommended to do it when you have suspension or parts changed. How accurate is your feel compared to computer diagnosis? At times, vibration set in only at certain speed but at times, road is not even, thus you might not detect anything. and I'm surprised that when you change your coilover, the workshop didn't tell you to do it or they have done it together with the change? Redschoolbus Neutral Newbie June 18, 2007 Share June 18, 2007 Wondering why workshops charge different price for different capacity of cars? The higher the capacity, the more it cost. Tot wheel alignment got nothing to do with capacity. Anyway same amount of work what. Anyone here knows exact reason why, besides bigger capacity car owner should be able to pay more.... Ckchong8 1st Gear December 12, 2013 Share December 12, 2013 Wheel alignment very important, be it tire wear or other. It also help to overcome oversteer of your ride when overtaking or meeting front coming big vehicle. Was having this problem on previous ride each time while overtaking and meeting front coming big vehicle my ride then to steer away from the other vehicle till my friend told me the cause was dues to a wheel alignment. Singapore wheel alignment very ex..nowadays i used to do it jb cheap n good. ↡ Advertisement
