I have a number plate in mind which in 1-2 years time should appear on the road. I m contemplating buying one of my favourite cars if I can get the alphabets & numbers right. But this kind of thing is hit or miss, though I would really like to get the number. It has very special meanings for me. My questions to the learned & knowledgable are:

1) Roughly I have to bid how many months before the license plate series is on the road @ onemotoring.

2) If I want to drive my current car, yet bid for a number with the purpose of transferring this number to a new car few years down the road, can I do so?

Assuming I can do so, and if I successfully won the number, what is the "maintenance fee" for keeping this number plate for these few years?

I can try to change my car now but I also have sentimental values to my old car number plus it will be a bit taxing on me currently, hence the rationale with bidding for the plate first with a view of buying the car few years down the road. Granted there might be newer models, but I think the car design(more the elegant shape than anything else) is classic and timeless (for me).

My uncle paid quite a significant sum of money for the number 6 years ago. However he said nowadays people are getting less interested in the numbers. His friend paid a thousand odd for the number 6666. Does the amount of numbers bother you peeps? If you have a nice number share it with us along with the price you paid for it. :)
