Liquidh 1st Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Lowly waged? How bad can it get when you're driving? LOL Dude, you've high expectations... Anyway, won't you get into trouble if you drive through the ERP gantry with a faulty IU? ↡ Advertisement

Miketow Neutral Newbie May 14, 2007 Author Share May 14, 2007 Dude - I dont have high expectations. All I want is an IU unit that works - like you I'm sure- so that I can enter my car park or not get my car marked by every ERP gantry so that I have to go on my knees and ask LTA for forgiveness. With a cash card that is always filled with money - I was at a public car park when the IU went dead on a steep down slope and there was like 6 cars behind me. My wife had to get out of the car - go on the main road and stop peak hour traffic so that the 6 cars could back out for me - no - I dont have high expectations. Genie47 1st Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Have them tap it to a secondary battery that is powered by a strip of solar cells on you windscreen. No short, no mess, no rewiring. I chope this design.
Vit4wd 1st Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 It was an honest mistake when the relevant authorities decieded upon the current ERP IU for all cars.
Liquidh 1st Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Dude, you got me wrong... I mean you can't be too lowly waged... Because, really poor people won't be able to buy a car, and have a cash card that's always topped up... (So that's why I say you've high expectations about your salary, please don't get offended... ) Wow, I can't imagine what kinda scenario that would be.... 6 cars reversing down slope... opps... Actually, they should always have a manual insert option for us man... Like old times when we actually slot the cash card into the machine...
Zoner Clutched May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Having said that, is there any indication that the IU is going to fail? If it dosen't have, then seriously the LTA should come up with some gadget/software that will tell the driver that the IU is failing... rather than having to drive thru the ERP and get summon for nothing
Boxster 2nd Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Had mine shorted out my car, three times... I thought the always install a fuse with it?
Miketow Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Author Share May 15, 2007 no worries bro. I burnt out my handbrake slowly reversing out of the parking lot..... Yeah - I agree - they should have a manual insert like old times...just in case of crap like this....
Miketow Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Author Share May 15, 2007 LTA still has not gotten back to me...they have an IU response team which was suppose to to get back to me....I called them 4 times yesterday - the LTA customer service kept telling me that they will get back to me "eventually". Im just gonna keep chalking up ERP gantry summon until they call me back.

Miles 4th Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 i have always wondered, why cant they make the IU plug into the 12V/lighter socket. That way, it'll be easier to change the IU... no mess in tapping power from here or there. At night, you can "switch off" the IU when passing gantry so that nobody can "trace" you. i am beginning to wonder,... if the gahment is moving towards GPS based IU and have stop paying attention to the current batch of IUs. or are just trying to clear the stock of IU so that they can roll out the new GPS ones. but imagine your gps ones die on you.... then you dont have to drive anywhere liao. Dipstick Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 now technology so advance..wonder wen will they replace the IU units, after all these years, IU unit still cost $150,still so bulky...so limited function. You are so right. Why can't they come up with a better I.U.? One that does not require the Cashcard to be inserted each time we go through a gantry. It is definitely possible to design one that transfers the stored value from the cashcard to a chip in the I.U. This will be more user-friendly and will eradicate cashcard thefts from vehicles. Perhaps you should bring up the matter to the media so that you're kinda protected from chalking up too much summons. no matter what, media is powerful
