Ivan0507 Neutral Newbie May 13, 2007 Share May 13, 2007 add an subwoofer or amp to your set up is possible.but you need to install either a 2ch or 4ch amp 1st ,so that you can use the amp to drive the speaker or subwoofer. if you want good sound /bass, budget set up .i would suggest install a pair of front component speaker and sound proof your both front door. looking for 2nd hand stuff !.---------log no to sgsoundsystem.com ,a lot of good 2nd hand stuff there. Spinworkx Clutched May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Your HU has a 2ch RCA output. I'm not sure if that's a normal 2ch output that outputs everything or just sub outputs. If it outputs everything, your sub might overpower everything else since the speakers will be run off the HU and not the amp... You could theoratically connect a sub, i'm just not sure it'll work out well with just one amp for the sub and none for the speakers..
Kwchan 1st Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 if you dont intend to upgrade further, one simple solution is to get an active woofer lor, then split the signal from the HU and feed into the woofer. Active woofer got build-in amp and cross-over already
Silhoutte Clutched May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 Hi, Amps are wat u use to amplify the sound signals expecially when they are sent to the speakers. As for speakers there are 3 types: Tweeters are for high range sound. Mid Speakers are for mid range sound. Subwoofers are for bass sound. A complete setup would be changing all your front and rear speakers to component speakers and adding in subwoofer. In this senario, you would require at least 2 amps, one 4-channel amp to power speakers and one 2 channel amp bridged to power the subwoofer. 400-500 on a complete system is a little low, but with luck and 2nd hand components, it should be possible. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Silhoutte Clutched May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 Should be no prob. Its works like this: Head Unit---->AMP 1---->Front Speakers Head Unit---->AMP 1---->Rear Speakers Head Unit---->AMP 2---->Subwoofer Amp 1 is a 4 channel amp Amp 2 is a 2 channel amp Cheers. Derekseah Neutral Newbie June 7, 2007 Share June 7, 2007 hi bros,is it advisiable to bridge a 4 X 75w amp to run a sub??
Clarence07 Neutral Newbie June 7, 2007 Share June 7, 2007 Hi bro You could bridged the 2channels to drive a sub and the other 2 channels to drive your front speakers. But please check the power rating of sub and the amp (when bridged) to ensure that your amp has enough power to power the sub. cheers
Spherex 1st Gear June 11, 2007 Share June 11, 2007 Should be no prob. Its works like this: Head Unit---->AMP 1---->Front Speakers Head Unit---->AMP 1---->Rear Speakers Head Unit---->AMP 2---->Subwoofer Amp 1 is a 4 channel amp Amp 2 is a 2 channel amp Cheers. Hi, what if the Subwoofer is an active sub? (eg. the pioneer under the seat type) Is this setup with just 1 4 channel amp possible/advisable? Head Unit---->AMP 1---->Front Speakers (component) Head Unit----> Rear Speakers (stock) Head Unit----> Active Subwoofer Amp 1 is a 4 channel amp Thanks! Clarence07 Neutral Newbie June 12, 2007 Share June 12, 2007 Hi bro some active sub like Steelmate also has it's own amplifier where you can use it to power your front component speakers . cheers
Silhoutte Clutched June 25, 2007 Share June 25, 2007 Hi dude, this setup is possible and no prob. But one thing is that i feel that those active subwoofers u put under seats are not very powerful. Cheers.
Silhoutte Clutched June 25, 2007 Share June 25, 2007 Yes u can bridge 2 channels into one and power 2 subs instead of 1 cos thats wat i did.
Bearbear1494 Clutched June 25, 2007 Share June 25, 2007 Possible to run just one amp with stock HU. But the amp that you buy MUST have a switch to select Low-Pass Filter (LPF). Without this LPF, the amp will route the entire frequency range to the subwoofer, which means instead of only bass, you'll hear the vocals as well. Set the amp to LPF, adjust the crossover frequency to your liking (I personally like the bass cutoff to be set at 100Hz), and be sure to adjust the gain (volume) on the amp so that the bass will not over-power the rest of your stock speakers. Really advise that you go for a decent set of component speakers for the front. This will help bring out the mid-bass to complement your subwoofer. Not only that, with a good set of speakers & crossovers, the clarity of your music is also improved. At a budget of around S$400, it's possible to get all this done, but don't expect the world. A normal 10 inch sub with enclosure should set you back around S$140, while a cheap 2-channel amp would cost around S$100. You need an amp that can deliver enough power to drive the sub, so around 80W RMS is what you can realistically expect for this price. Component speakers like Blitz Audio are reasonable for the price, which is around S$110 for a set of 6.5 inch. The remaining S$60 should go to cables & fuses. A standard in-line fuse will cost around S$20, a set of RCA cables linking your HU to amp is around S$30 for average ones. If you plan to install DIY, then you'd need to buy power cables as well, which go for around S$5 per meter for 8AWG wires. Otherwise, expect to pay around S$60-80 for an installer to do the job, which includes the power cables, running the cables under the carpet to the boot etc. Just remember, don't expect SPL Competition-levels of power & I think you'll find a budget setup sufficient for regular usage. Modas88 Neutral Newbie June 27, 2007 Share June 27, 2007 (edited) there are a lot of budget stuffs in the market that actually can sound quite decent. u just got to be patient & scour the classifieds of the various forums, and check out the install shops for traded in items that they may be willing to let go cheap. if ur Hu has an RCA output, this is what I wld suggest:- a 1/2 din EQ/Xover to split the signal to front/rear/sub (abt $120 at SLS) Upgraded coaxial spkrs (I got a pair of Hertz coaxes for $85 at SLS) for the front, can leave the rear stock s/h amps: a 4ch for the front rear & 2 ch for the sub, I once went to an installer in Geylang and he had a Zapco competition amp and an old jbl (USA made) for $120, & $150. There are good deals to be had if ur patient. Sub: wait patiently for a good deal to turn up. I managed to hook a pair of OZ audio 8" subs (usa made)for $50 a couple of months ago. to brother Bearbear; the prices u mentioned for some off the items are a bit off. for eg, I recently got an inline fuseholder for $6 (bargained down from $8), and the last time I got power cable, 8ga was going for $2.5-3 per metre, while 4ga could be had for $5 per metre. No offece meant bro Edited June 27, 2007 by Modas88 ↡ Advertisement
