Huggable Clutched May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 There has to be a major work to be done around the area to cater for the practice session, and the race. The power flood lights have to be brought in and installed. Manholes and drain covers will have to be well welded onto the ground, the high kerbs will have to be demolished, there has to have sufficient run-off areas at high-speed bends. They have the set up the pit lane, and mechanic quarters. Whole lot of major work, I must say. Not just close the road, and race can be on the way! ↡ Advertisement
Lawman123 Neutral Newbie May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 today Straits Time mentioned that $150 million will be spend for the race. Wah, with so much money, might as well build a track.
Intermilansg Neutral Newbie May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 I rather they built a dedicated track for motorsports.
Twnll 1st Gear May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 Guaranteed no road humps to slow them down!
Twnll 1st Gear May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 the idea of a race track is good. but in land scarce sg, we can't afford to build a perm race track. we still have to look to msia for race tracks. thats just unavoidable. as for the F1 circuit. i was hoping they use some of the tunnels in city hall orchard area. that will make things more memorable, like monaco. hopefully, the track gets a slight adjustment. Yeah, local racers will never patronise a permanent race track in Sillypore, what if TP station themselves there to take down veh lic no? Go to Sepang, no such problem. On the way to Sepang is warming up!
Auron 2nd Gear May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 too bad they remove the suntec ring. should be interesting to see all cars slow and jam at that circle.
Eyke Supercharged May 13, 2007 Share May 13, 2007 i think that may happen if gov see the benefits that F1 brings and also the inconveniences of a street track...
Ferrariz Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 reason they remove the suntec city ring is NOT Because of the "OFFICAL REASON" the main reason is that suntec city ring is populated by OFFICE. the possibility of FREELOADERS standing inside their office and NOT paying is the main reason why it was taken away. F1 is all about $$$$ , dont be mistaken
Miles 4th Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 i think Bernie, OBS & STPB specifically wants a street race. it'll be more spectacular and easier to sell the city (and rooms at hotels around the circuit) better. Sure, it will annoy a lot of people for 2-3 weeks during preparations and road closure (think IMF/World Bank summit days). i dont think they bother. $$$ and fame is more important than a little inconveniences. And i am sure the noise can be heard as far as outram park, kallang and chinatown.
Topgun Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 i wonder if they'll ever close all that road n hold a local race for normal production cars jus for the locals.... my guess is not.... will more likely become a "FT" track.... only meant for the imported "talents" where theya re considered 1st class... LT standard still 2nd class only.... without a permanent track, i guess talk so much kork also useless abt promoting motorsports here.... local talents will still be stuck using LCK, Tuas, OG, GP & PG.... Correcto. The gahmen is still not supporting local motorsports scene or its related business or business potential; and definitely not encouraging any 'new' growth. F1 catered only for rich and famous only. It's ok, I think the gahmen got pact with our neighbour so that we still go up by the hordes to Sepang/PG, golf clubs, etc etc to help our neighbour's economy...
