Ronnie Neutral Newbie May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 (edited) how do you define as 'potential'? engine potential or aftermarket parts potential? if you have the money,i think "potential" is not a problem. iam just afraid there are no aftermarket performance parts available for the car. well, if anyone has the money, probably, even lack of aftermarket parts may not be a problem that aside, when you have the money, won't you have changed the car to a better stock car instead? even when it boils down to engine potentials, in terms of bhp gains, would you think it's worth the trouble turbocharging a rio/getz engine or a swift/vios/civic engine? (for example) imho, even when you have the parts, you might not get the same gain on different engines there are no new B16 here and iam not the one to bring this engine in this thread first. and what has it got to do with whether its new or old? well, it has to do with availablity. the b16b has monstorous bhp for a 1.6L. but it's a 1997 design/model. in the end, engine lup doesn't fall in the category of a $2k mod. :) anyway, what i'm saying is, a lot of mods were done on small cars in the 'illusion' of 'beating' higher capacity (stock) cars and my question is, "whats the point?" even when you highly tune/mod a b16b, and i'm ignorant of it's potential, say lets give it a result of 300 bhp. so, what next when it meets a car that pulls 400bhp? Kelpie 2nd Gear May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 Quote Unbelievable. Only 2 forummers had sensible replies - go for training. A fast driver in a modest car will always be faster than some chow beng rice boy with nice mods and stickers running down the side of his door. 1. Actually, those stickers if tastefully done can be quite nice. But puttng Tatoo on my car is something that I've not done and will not do in the future. I don't like to advertise for parts companies for free. Why should I? 2. I believe in slient killer than a loud vehicle with no zest. Slayer Clutched May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 modding is very broad lor. from driver to engine to handling. depends on what the owner wish to achieve. :) some u need to spend $$ and some u get it free. :)
Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 more or less i get what you mean. say a SS is selling at about $60k now and the CVR is at about $70k(manual). i will definitely go for the CVR.and definitely not a Cooper S at about $120k or not even a euro R at $90k. but some people buy the SS before the CVR was launched. so in this case as a SS driver,if there are parts available and the engine is built to last,it is still potential to me. as for 300bhp meet 400bhp.all i can say mods are never ending. there are people who have faster ride than you. if budget allows, car is not an issue. modification counts then. put a RB26Dett in a civic EG6 with 1000horses also not a problem. Ronnie Neutral Newbie May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 its quite a chicken : egg issue. most of the time, people get the wrong idea about 'mods' how to compare? - compare car : car. ppl will cry 'not fair' coz different capacity - compare cc : cc. ppl will cry 'not fair' coz technology different - compare handling. ppl will cry 'not fair' coz height different! end up, compare FC ('power' mods with FC improvement! i think i'll save the $2k and 'mod' my gf/wife with victoria secrets collection.... more satisfying
Slayer Clutched May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 Ronnie, part and parcel of mod industry. :) the wallet is the limit mah. Most of the modders learns on the 'job' lor. Give the 2k, i'd just use better plugs, better tyres, filters. that could fulfil my modding need. :) :) vic secret ah? got group buy? haha

Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 10, 2007 Author Share May 10, 2007 Quote hi all, I am not big on performance mods. But would like to spend just a little money to improve on the performance of my ride, especially low end. Would a CAI be sufficient for an "entry level performance mod"? What do you guys recommend? I might spend more in future, but right now don't want to splurge unnecessarily... Thanks for the advice. Oh yah, btw, I drive a swift sport. Sign for advanced driving course. Mod the driver, not the car. How much are such courses?
Barachomp Neutral Newbie May 10, 2007 Share May 10, 2007 Quote $2k shld be able to feed you with a decent pair of coilovers and stabalizing bars around your car, that's already almost 1 second shredded off from your fast ride esp. in corners. for your nice ride alternative would be brake upgrades, safety is always the main in concern i totally agree.. handling a very crutial aspect of the ride.. Porker Turbocharged May 11, 2007 Share May 11, 2007 Quote Thanks bro for replying. I have done option 1, am 80kg. But muscles, not fats. Wheels are lighten, no longer on stock rims. But not forged rims either. Also I have found out that my CF bonnet only reduces the most 1kg for my ride. Still working on option 2. :) I need music, so radio is a must. I switch off the air-con during cool days and at night. Option 3 is what I am exploring. Am interested in changing exhaust for the performance and the sound. CAI is another option. For option 4, I am already on half bucket seats. Thinking of changing to full bucket if not for my big frame. Strut bars will be installed at a later stage. Brakes might be changed if my performance mods become too powerful for stock brakes to handle. Might lower ride, still thinking... Save the money on the exhaust swap as it won't help much other than the sound. Which gym do you go to btw?

Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 12, 2007 Author Share May 12, 2007 Thanks bro. I like music a lot, but not to the extent of blasting it. I like my music soft actually. :) And when I drive I listen to the engine note to change gears. Will heed your advice on the bars and braces, spark plugs... Take it a step at a time. :)

Porker Turbocharged May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 Gimme a shout when you're there next time. I'm usually in blue bermudas and a torn black polo tee (nobody dresses in torn shirts except me)... should be pretty easy to spot
Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 13, 2007 Author Share May 13, 2007 Hmmm torn t-shirt, if I don't recall wrongly, I might have seen you before if you have been a member there for the last year or so. Up until about four months ago, I was quite a regular face, going there about two - three times a week. Always in green tank top and blacks. Not easy to miss too. haha. Sadly though, due to work commitments, I have not been to the gym since. :( Now waiting to see when the gym near my place opens before commiting to another contract with cali. ↡ Advertisement
