Went to check my car today while topping my radiator water. Was shocked to find radiator water leaking from the engine side. Confirm radiator water as it is green (added coolant). The leakage gets worse when I switch on the air-con.

Is it a common problem? Is the pump spoilt?

Any recommendations for workshop in Ang Mo Kio Area? Thank you. [flowerface]

Btw, I driving a old toyota corolla.

looks like either waterpump problem or the radiator hose has sprung a leak which they usually do becos the rubber becomes brittle.

hv u ever changed ur timing belt recently?

can ask my mechanic if u want..

Sometimes you just need to tighten the expanding band clamp of the rubber hose. It seems the additional load of the aircon running produces more water pressure that forces it out of the system at the leak.

Such gaps can occur with old cars due to corrosion of metal parts and fittings such as the inlet/outlet of the water pump and renders it no longer watertight.

The hose itself may have cracked and split due to age as well. Does the hose look like its swollen and bulging? You may have your answer there.

nvm.. u try riverview point since they r well recommended here. my mech in sin ming autopoint.

long time ago, i bought the hose and change myself. it is not difficult, just need longer screw drivers/ wrench.

but if ur car is due for changing timing belt, then get it done all at one go.

Hi Elfenstar, I am not too sure...I cant see the leak, except from the car bottom. The position is near the engine though....

best is not to guess.. pop the bonnet, keep a torch handy, top up the radiator. then get the engine gg, and on the aircon.

also try to figure out how u can change the hose urself. it'll save u a lot just to do it urself.

or go back to the feller who did the timing belt and tell him there is a leak n let him figure out for u.

Happened to my car recently. Found out that it was a water jacket that leaked near the engine area. I was basically drying out very fast each time.

$5 replacement part, but required $50 of service fee cos the jacket is hidden deep beneath the throttle body area.

Depends on the car make and model too. Had mine replaced at Lim Tan Motors, but most standard workshops can take care of the problem.

Hi Xtraun! [wave]

Nice to see your reply. Yup, you are correct, the water pump kaput. Went to Ah Ting, Pisces69's mechanic. Did up the long-time air-con problem as well, not by Ah Ting, but his neighbour. Was told by Markcool Ah Huat need to change the air-con whole system, but was surprise Ah Ting's neighbour just service it, top up gas and everything ok. The damage cost as below.

Water pump - $130 (done by Ah Ting)

recon air-con fan - $49 (done by Ah Ting)

Air-con service - $70 (done by Ah Ting's neighbour)

Guess I was lucky to get a 2nd opinion as Ah Huat quoted me $300 plus to change the whole air-con system.

Now just left to do up the regulator switch or thermostat that regulate the speed of the air-con fan. Ah Ting said no stock today and will call me when got stock. Will cost around $20-30.

The last thing I need to do is the leaking power steering pumping. Last time got a quote from a Yew Tee Scapeyard cost $100 plus. Didnt do the repair last time as the leak was not serious and my hands were tight. Guess not a solution as the leaking oil may damage the rest of the engine system.

Thanks to the rest of the forum friends for the input and suggestions!!! [flowerface]
