Why conti car has longer servicing interval?

Correct, think mine is also rather long interval (A5 Sportsback), so I never really bothered. My SE also told me, don't waste time to go servicing when it's not required.

Its actually very problem free (touch wood), despite many people who thinks Audi / VW DSG got lots of problem, conti cars not suitable for our weather etc.

I got a friend who even told me very seriously, he is more expert than me in cars, I MUST service / change oil when car reached 5K..... :o Car is way past 5K now, and still intact.

In my opinion, 5k is quite short an interval to change oil.

But if one is itchy and got money, then workshop or AD should be happy to service his car for him. :D

You got the point. You are right. Some AD only replace engine oil, replensih engine oil, for servicing. Never service the brakes, the CV joints... [shakehead]

Either they religiously follow the service manual/schedule or you need to pay for servicing the rest of the stuff like brakes, CV joints. That is how they earn money from you.

i think is in terms of practicality. in europe and states, i think it is easy to hit 15k in weeks.... i can't imagine that i have to keep going back for servicing every few weeks? [laugh]

in europe and US, some do servicing their own.... cos they easily can get a car and own landed properties wif a garage behind it...

here, COE is already a killer and properties keep rising... puny HDB can cost quarter of a million...

Anyone know why conti car like Renault, BMW, Merc etc. can have longer servicing interval like 15k or 20k whereas Jap/Korean cars only 10k? Is it bcos the engine block is of better quality?

Most (if not all....but Lada i dunno [laugh] ) modern conti cars are designed to meet API SM/CF; ACEA A3/B3/B4; BMW LL-01; MB approval 229.5; VW 502 00/503 01/505 00 stds. Using MB 229.5 stds for example, it specifies drain intervals of up to 30,000km and to be used wif fleece oil filter compatible wif 229.5 oils. So the local AD service interval of 15,000km is actualli very safe.

For jap cars, i can onli speculate that (i) factory doesn't specify the same API SM stds, hence, AD will happily follow a lower 10k service interval though the customer is paying for a long-drain interval MB 229.5 oil like the Helix Ultra or (ii) jap cars dun come wif fleece filter or (iii) capitalise on the KS mentality that everything will break down if they dun keep throwing money at it.

One AD I enquired said they do not offer such service besides engine oil replenishing and brake pads replacement. In fact their advertsiement a lot more expertise than they really offer.

Even though i follow LL01 oil for BMW, I don't follow the service interval set by the car. In fact, i change every 8k km because my car is mostly driven in the city. There will be build up of water content in the oil which is not good.
