Karebu 1st Gear May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 (edited) umm... normal? it's a steering lock, as in, security function for you to lock your steering when you turn off the engine. someone correct me if i'm wrong. can you turn your steering wheel without the key inserted btw? Karebu 1st Gear May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 try turning your steering more (it has abit of allowance to turn even though it's locked) before you put your key. turn your key and your steering should 'come free'.
Cumzilla 4th Gear May 1, 2007 Author Share May 1, 2007 (edited) that was what i did, i just want to know what causes that to happen, probably bros Celicapimp and Nhrisuzu had answered that query...just hope that its not a problem with the ignition lock cylinder Edited May 1, 2007 by Cumzilla
Karebu 1st Gear May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 it's a security function to deter those hot-wiring-car-jacking thieves cannot straighten/adjust the steering without the key and the car would go in circles. erh. depends on your car. some steerings lock: -turn steering wheel abit after you take out key -turn steering wheel more than a 'T' after you take out the key -ignition set to lock -etc.. hope i've answered your qn
Celicapimp Neutral Newbie May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 I kena before..I tried to turn steering left and right abit while trying to start ignition with key till it's "loosen" then i can start ignition liao
Apollo 1st Gear May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 it cud b a manufacture fault. happens to 03 colt before. try not to insert the key too deep and play about. another possibility is u cud b using a duplicate key which is not set nicely.
Jslancer Neutral Newbie May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 Hi Cumzilla. There is nothing wrong with your ignition lock at all. Like mentioned by Karebu, this is a basic security feature that most of us did not bother about it. Even if thief were to go into the car, using the shocking method of the two wires to start the car, they won't be able to rotate the wheel, so that will prevent them from driving away unless their get away route is all the way straight. We guys are so used to the wireless remote security that we have all forgotten about the basic car security.
Adawang 1st Gear May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 turn the steering wheel slightly to release the pressure acting on the locking pin and u wud be able to turn the key this is very normal
Garlic 1st Gear May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 Don't worry, its just the standard factory steering lock. Simply apply pressure to the wheel while turning the key. No problems at all.
Huggable Clutched May 1, 2007 Share May 1, 2007 If you didn't position the steering wheel to the lock position, and "force" the steering wheel to lock in position, it would be more difficult to unlock the wheel. Just rock the wheel until it frees from the lock.

Madsumm 1st Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 just now experience for the 1st time unable to turn my key to igniton due to locking of my steering wheel, only after turning my steering wheel abit then i am able to turn the key, what causes this to happen? Its normal. After you have pulled out your key, you might touch or move your steering. Because you don't have a key it, it will lock and shutoff the ignition. Happen freq since my car is low, and would touch the steering unintentionally when getting in and out of car. ↡ Advertisement
