Why there is such a big different in price for 5W40($66) and 0W40($80)?

 

Which is better choice?

5w40 is SL and meets 229.3 only

0w40 is SM and meets 229.5

 

0w40 has superior basestock

 

if u do oil change every 10k 5w40 edge sufficient

if dun mind spend more then get the 0w40

I am using Castrol now... I think its 0W20 or something..

 

So far, both my Matrix'es' are quite ok with this oil... Have already travelled almost 7K and still quiet.

 

I bought another 8 more quarts to stock up... hehe...

Not sure what is kieran's car, but fiat grande punto's manual specifies 5w40.

Its too thick.

 

Your engine is designed to run on 20wt, the thickest I would use is 30wt.

Have tried the O-40W one previously and it's not bad

 

Currently on Motul which i feel is lagi better but of course pocket burns bigger

don't worry about the number in front, ie. 0 or 5, as it's only applicable in winter conditions, ie. 0 deg or below.

 

all modern non-turbo cars max use w30, some manufacturers even recommend w20, so don't waste money, mileage, power using thicker oil than necessary...

i wonder when is 0w-10 coming out

after running 20wt for quite awhile, even 30 i feel sluggish.

 

ran up north with full passenger and boot load, many times, uoa looks as usual, no sheering..

even lesser wear than the m1 10w30 i've tried, which thinned abit.

as genie mention before, it seems that 20wt film strength is stronger than 30wt & above.

 

however, auto trans is another thing totally

Could it be due to less VIIs in 20wts?

 

I love the response, FC and smoothness of 0W20 in my ride which is recommended by car manufacturer.

Catrol Edge 0W40 ($80)+ free gift and Mobil One Gold 0W40 ($80).

 

Which is a better choice?

 

Currently I'm on Mobil One Gold and has done 9K++ on this oil still running gold not sure how's the performance of Catrol Edge.

 

Anyone have tried both?

 

pls share your Field Report as my 40K service is due soon....

the front number is somewhat applicable in singapore because all oils would be considered too thick at startup. a 0w would be easier on the parts during startup than a 5w...
