Boxster 2nd Gear April 21, 2007 Share April 21, 2007 Hi Anyone have experience trading in a car meant for deregistering? How to prevent "illegal activities" after the car is handed over as I would like to terminate the insurance coverage? ↡ Advertisement

Boxster 2nd Gear April 21, 2007 Author Share April 21, 2007 (edited) But I think that the problem maybe that since car is meant for deregistering dealer say they would deregister in my name(to avoid paying transfer fee) so there would not be a transfer at LTA. Is signing of an undertaking proof changing of hands and no responsibility of "unusual happening" after the car is handed over? Thanks! Schneider79 Clutched April 22, 2007 Share April 22, 2007 When you give your car to the dealer, there should be an agreement for both parties. They should fill in the date and time of delivery to relieve your problem. Also, you can cancel your insurance immediately because all the dealers should have their own insurance to cover the car. The LTA deregister thing and transfer fee thing is bull. The car will not be deregistered under your name. The dealer will transfer out to the company or exporter's company and deregister it. Because the paper will not be under your name. They need the paper back. Thats why you need to give the dealer your IC for the transfer and if your car is still under finance, they need some time to settle with the bank. Usually, 5-7 days. Boxster 2nd Gear April 22, 2007 Author Share April 22, 2007 OIC thanks Ccssgm and Schneider79 Seems that there are different methods to deregister the car. Didn't know that they can do a transfer to a company without incuring transfer fee.
Jameslee2002 Neutral Newbie January 24, 2009 Share January 24, 2009 Hi all Need some advice here regarding de-registration of my previous car. According to my PI dealer, the car is for scrap/export as the paper value is high. Bought a car from the same PI dealer and the new car was delivered 4-5 days ago. I did a one-to-one exchange with purchase agreement showing the date of handover. The dealer took my ic for transfer purpose and I got back my ic after a few days. The question here arises:- 1) LTA sent me a letter 2 days ago saying that the old car is given a vehicle pin. When I went to check in the website, the old vehicle is still registered under my name. Would there be any problems or illegal activities that may potentially happen? 2) Btw, my old car still has some outstanding full settlement, just checked with the bank today, not settled yet. Dealer said it will take some time.. Any advice from you guys, kinda worried...Thanks..

Luck5 Neutral Newbie September 7, 2011 Share September 7, 2011 Hi, I intend to deregister my vehicle in Singapore and send it out to Malaysia. I plan to give it to my cousin. Is this possible ? hi harry, u can do that (in plan) but u cannot just pass it to your cousin by yourself. read LTA website, for export:- 1) u need to deregister your car, then park at a "zone" area, you have 6mths to 1yr to export your car 2) ur car must not have any finance before de-register. 3) prove of export must be shown (with export permit through singapore custom), which they will come to inspect. and there's another way.. for import into malaysia:- read the website 1) you need import documents and permit as well. but there;s also another way... cheers
