Lorbinhoot Neutral Newbie April 24, 2007 Share April 24, 2007 (edited) No levy on vehicles entering country KUALA LUMPUR: The plan to impose a RM20 levy on vehicles entering the country from Singapore and Thailand has been scrapped. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Government decided against the move, as it was Visit Malaysia 2007. He said the levy was supposed to be introduced last year but was not implemented. Edited April 24, 2007 by Lorbinhoot

Jacf Neutral Newbie April 24, 2007 Share April 24, 2007 i never say MY imposed the 3/4 tank policy. No, never said you did. One of the difficulties with this forum is that you have to reply to a poster. Can't see where you can just post a reply otherwise. So I replied to your post as I was giving a view on what you posted. Sorry if it upset you. Anyway. Lets look at the gains and losses for visiting MY. Gains 1. Singapore is a small country and it's nice to get away once in a while. 2. Restaurant prices in JB are a lot cheaper than S'pore, maybe half price. 3. Petrol in JB is nearly half of the cost in S'pore. 4. Shopping in JB is a lot cheaper than S'pore. 5. Hotels are a lot cheaper over in MY. Now those are gains to we Singaporeans which are 'allowed' by the MY Gov. Losses 1. Singapore charges our cars S$7.4 for a to and fro visit. 2. Singapore imposes a 3/4 tank rule so we can't make as much as we used to on petrol. No other losses?????? So of the 5 gains, all are due to MY. Of the 2 losses both are due to S'pore. And now at long long last MY is considering the imposition of a LOSS, i.e. Ringitt20 to enter MY we seem to get all hot and bothered by this. All neighbours have to get on. HAVE TO GET ON WITH each other. I can see no reason to get grumpy with MY for imposing ringitt20 per car entry. I'm happy to be pointed in the right direction if I'm wrong, mind. Losses? yes yes, I have RM$20 worth less to gamble in Toto ansd 4-D MY gains are SG losses! a few more losses i can think of: loss of security to material belongings and personal safety; loss of freedom(can get put into prison for suspected illegal mods to cars and no chop on passports). Genie47 1st Gear April 24, 2007 Share April 24, 2007 Look at it this way. Just as in investments, Japan favors the brave. (stagnant for 3yrs already) For motoring needs, JB favors the brave. If you know the risks, know how to minimize the risks for the maximum gain, brave you are and you will reap. No risk, no gain.

mhattam Neutral Newbie April 24, 2007 Share April 24, 2007 (edited) Attached is a simple spreadsheet that calculate the saving made for patrol topup at you know where. All current tolls and conversion rate have been considered Also included if any gain are made if exit levy is being impose by you know where. Value changes are only to be made on the following cells B4, C2 - C5, B9, C9 Looking at the numbers.... (before the exit toll if any)... be nice to thy neighbour.... For those who are considering modifying the fuel gauge.... it is illegal and not necessary... (of coz before exit toll). But if malaysia exit toll is being implemented... is it worth the risk? Naturally when Singaporean are there, they are likely to spend but if ever a levy is being impose.... the mindset will change.... neither MY gain nor Singaporean driver gain....
