Mr Amirrudin admitted that there were occasional hiccups for travellers entering Malaysia, but he said that the government departments are working closely with the Tourism Ministry to make sure tourists feel welcome.

Well, will doubt they can do much in this dept. Their officials are probably train to target tourist with fair skin and non-singlish slang. Doubt they will give a hoot about us.

Maybe next time go in and adopt a china-accent. Maybe they will shower me with garlands of flowers and free shopping vouchers [laugh][laugh]

The Rm20 will offset any cost savings of driving into Msia. No point driving in to shop/eat/relax (plus petrol), at this rate, I rather talk bus or walk over after parking up Northern singapore if i absolutely have to...

me too. On average I go up once or twice each month, some times just eat/top up petrol/return. WIth RM20, I will only go in once or twice a year.

this will surely affect especially JB economy where most of spendings are from Singaporeans.I believe most Singaporeans will cut down their usual shopping trips except for work.

Who knows after this rm20 entry, robbers will be even more hungry to target any Singaporeans cos lesser preys liao mah

After awhile those who goes to JB will forget

like the 3/4 tank rule

1. I just went in yesteday. Whoa! traffic damn smooth even during peak hours and shopping places and resturants have less crowd too.

2. It seems like Singaporean very price sensitive even before the levy stuff. Anyway, they have not implemented the RM20 levy yet.

3. Actually, I don't really care whether it is RM20 or RM50. Because for a family of 4 to eat in a Japanese sushi, it may cost me S$70 here, in JB alone, it is less than S$35. So RM20 is really nothing. Sometimes, it is not about cost, MY offers many little things in life that you can't get in Singapore.

Paying the MYR20 is not a big issue. Bigger issue is why the police (state and highway) in Malaysia always target Singapore cars. I have had the experience where the highway ones (in the pajeros) stick to me like glue ... altho I stayed within the limit and always kept left if not overtaking. They were just waiting for me to commit a minor offence ... Luckily for me (but not for another driver of a blue Lotus) who overtook him, he gave up on me and went after the Lotus.

I am not just picking on Malaysia, I am Malaysian (SPR) driving a Singapore registered car with a Singapore driver's licence. Sometimes, I also give up on them.

Its not so much about the casual traveller. I work in JB and so do thousands.

Busineses will be affected. Can you imagine if the company pays out average additional RM$400 per month per employee who has to go into JB for work. Just take the case for say 50 employees, its a good RM$20K per month. RM$200K per year. [rolleyes]

Smaller businesses will be even more affected by this.

At the end of the day, it might not only affect the number of casual travellers there, but also businesses which might pull out due to the higher expenses.

Maybe if yr company is MNC can try to ask for season tickets to be implemented[laugh]

I do know that a lot of ppl live in S'pore but work in JB so it is bad news unless can claim from company.

I do have a gut feeling that they will maybe charge RM10 or 15 when it is implemented. Then 2nd yr they will increase by RM5 and so on. One time cut the "flesh" too deep will be very painful so they take more "cuts" [sweatdrop]

Just like bus fare every yr review and increase a bit seems like S'pore will KPKB and then 2 months later keep quiet coz no point to complain they just do what they want and got no other cheaper alternatives.
