There is a technology are OCR (Optical Character Recognition) . When you have your passport check at booth, there a number camera surround you. One of the is pointing at your car plate. Therefore, you car plate is automatic captured. If necessary, the computer will alert them to stop the vehicle.

 

Bro, U are correct to say the least, car plate recognition is one thing, petrol tank rules is another, point is ICA conduct check at random only.

 

Suspicion only aroused upon returning, at times, one will notice more security alert with hawk-eyed staring hard at motorist, thy are trained to detect smuggler/s

Whether the ICA gather our info or not when entering JB shouldn't bother us when we break no law.......so why should anyone be concerned when one enter JB?

 

Unless one decided to take a gamble with less than 3/4 tank or tampered fuel gauge......

btw i'm not here to specially argue with people, what i'm against is fear mongering, scare tactics and misinformation

 

singapore has seen a huge influx of foreigners and malaysia is the perfect place for us singaporeans to balance supply and demand

many commodities can be found in malaysia and 100% legal to buy and bring back into singapore. yakult, canned drinks, detergent, dog food, car products all can be found in malaysia with great discounts.

 

the cinemas there are more than 1/2 priced against those in singapore and there is infact no reason for our cinemas to mark up prices so much other than to counter the supply-demand cycle

 

if we can patronize malaysia more, we will effectively lower the demand in singapore and help fight inflation and ridiculous price increases.

 

the STI is hovering at 3k, it is not a good sign yet our prices are at an all time high.

please do refrain from discouraging people from visiting malaysia

Do you know how many thousands of SG plate cars going in and out of the causeway everyday?? Many thousands every morning and evening!! There are many Singaporeans staying in JB, working in Singapore.

 

They check randomly on certain timings. They don't go check by aiming a certain car number plate. When a certain time comes, they will check ALL SG cars passing thru. Those come once a year one also will tio check, those everyday in/out also check, as long as the random time comes, all tio check one by one.

 

They can actually narrow down on those who enter make a loop and back in short time space.

 

And they have many ways to detect suspicion even you enter once a decade. Just my assumption.

 

You'll be surprise wat software can do and calculate without the knowledge of the public but anyway if you got no s--t why bother what they do.

They even know which accessory shops in jb doing it, thus recognising those remotes.

 

Custom will only detain you while wait for mechanics from LTA to arrive. A fren got fined $3000 last year, no jail term.

 

Btw this fren of mine got hit on the way home at Tuas, din know he got the device until he called me for advice after that he go court a couple of time.

i don't think they have OCR there but as i've pointed out previously, there is absolutely no need for the customs officer to have special software that would indicate if you are a frequent visitor to malaysia when all he needs to do is to flip your passport

 

They want to ensure that you did not change your car plate. If your answer is different from the car plate, then they will investigate. further.

 

It is similar, when ICA / Police ask what is your name, while holding your IC/ passport.

They will ask you for your vehicle number when the camera cannot capture your car plate. I asked the officer once and he told me the camera is a little faulty, otherwise it captures the number and pump it into the database automatically, no data entry required.

 

Why leave it to flipping passport when technology can help you to decipher the data and filter out the noise? I am pretty sure they mine the database and pick up patterns for national security and other reasons.

 

Don't be naive lah, there are reasons why people like me never get the "VVIP" treatment. They are definitely into profiling and data mining and these are SOP for any custom and immigration office worth its salt in this game.

i go in once or twice every week and i don't get the VVIP treatment either but as with any data mining i'm very sure i'm not amongst the top 20% of singaporeans who visit malaysia often. so i don't think i'll get the VVIP treatment and neither should anybody get worried about something like this

i've changed 3 cars in 3 years but i've driven 6 or 7 cars into malaysia in the past 3 years too

never once did they investigate me

sorry i didn't read properly previously

but just to share, i've driven cars that wern't my own into malaysia before and could only remember vague details of the license plate

all i did was explain to them that its not my car and told them as best i could.

never once was i stopped for further queries on the ownership of the car

Actually ICA is more focused on drugs, criminal, terrorism and other activities, so petrol cheaters are not on their priority list, hence the lax enforcement. This however has encouraged certain behaviours. Fuel gauge tampering is plain stupid, just drive in with empty tank, your odds of beating the game is so much better. I probably say too much liow and make some cheaters very unhappy...

sounds very much like me actually, whenever i go in it'll be a 30 min journey and usually between 4 - 5am in the morning after clubbing

but i've never been specially stopped for a spot check before
