Why would you want to mess with something that spins at tens of thousands of rpms?

 

The slightest imbalance and your turbo will blow up. [wave]

A few US and aussie companies do that. They call that fin clipping.

 

You can do a search on Deadbolt Turbos or Slow Boy Racing. Momentum has folded, so forget about that company.

 

For dealbolt, you'll need to send them your core and they will offset the core price. I believe that they do TD04s. Others like TD05 and larger, think you'll need to buy a ready modified one.

Anyone happened to know where can repair the fin or replaced the fin of the turbo. My inlet turbine think hit by some sand and cause the fin to crack. Where to replace the whole fin.

Don't think there's any locally. There is a distributor for IHI, Garret, Mitsubishi etc.... wrote in to them just to buy the water lines... no reply.

 

I understand that the closest is KL. Unless yours is a rare or extremely expensive turbo, I think its cheaper to get a 2nd hand one. Understand that TD series turbos are easier to repair and modify.

 

Which is your turbo BTW?

Think you can get a good condition VF22 for around $800. If you're gonna replace the impeller, have them clean up and check the balance, etc..... costs would probably be around there or maybe even more.

 

Another alternative, go for the TD06-20G which I think is comparable to the VF22.... but packs even more high end punch. [sweatdrop]

Variable Geometry Turbo. Also known as Variable vane Turbo/turbine. Get this instead [:p] . Not sure if its sold sepeately or ur car car take it without reliability issue....K, I am kidding, It probably very ex$ & shouldn't be used to replace standard turbo.

 

The Porsche 997 Turbo has 2 of these babies. [thumbsup]

 

My suggestion is change to a smaller turbo, less lag, more control , in pratice,probably accerate faster to legal speed on most roads (50, 60) except expway. But of course u lose top power & acceration at higher speed....my thinking only, pardan me if I am wrong.

Bro, Could you advise the need to "cut" the compressor wheel? The logic of the method seem strange. [jawdrop]

 

The clearance between compressor wheel and the compressor wheel vane guide

is a few mm different. Therefore, if the clearance to much, the turbo is able to spool fast but unable to push more air into the intercooler... & into the engine.

and the performance of engine will drop... [lipsrsealed]

Think the time and money to "modify" the turbo, its easier and more cost

effective to jus get a new one.
