Route88 2nd Gear March 31, 2007 Share March 31, 2007 (edited) SHE was about to go out and did not want her little boy to go with her. But he kept demanding that she take him along. So Madam Cai moved the boy, who was 21months old, aside and got into her sports utility vehicle. But the Taiwanese woman, whose full name was not given, did not realise that her child had run in front of the car. She turned on the engine and started to drive off, but stopped when she felt the vehicle hit something, reported Apple Daily Taiwan. When she got out of the vehicle, she was horrified to find that her son had been run over by the car's left front wheel. The weight of the vehicle had crushed his head, and there was a pool of blood on the ground. The distraught woman shouted: 'Quick, come, I've run over the kid.' Her husband ran out of the house and nearly fainted when he saw what had happened. The mother grabbed the child and rushed him to the hospital. But his injuries were too severe and he showed no signs of life. The woman's hands were trembling as she kept saying to herself: 'It's all mummy's fault. It's all mummy's fault.' DEATHLY PALE Her husband kept silent, his face deathly pale. When the doctor finally told them that their son was dead, both parents cried non-stop. The mother kept pounding her chest. The police had been informed of the incident, and met the couple at the hospital. Both were in no state to drive, so the police helped to move their SUV to the police station to help in their investigations. At the scene, officers found that the car had been driven for only a few metres before it collided into the boy. They found bloodstains on the ground, and one of the boy's slippers by the side of the road. Investigations showed that the SUV was 1.4m in height. The mother is 1.6m tall and the little boy was between 70 to 80cm tall. This means it was possible that when the woman was in the driver's seat, she was unable to see the boy. The boy could have been hit when the woman was making a right turn. Neighbours said that the young couple were very loving towards their son, and it was a tragedy that he was killed so unexpectedly. En0203 2nd Gear March 31, 2007 Share March 31, 2007 my condolences to the family, very sad incident indeed. the guilt will be there forever with the mother, really a sad case. this is why it is a common practice in my family to not let the kids/pets running around the cars when parking or reversing. if only the mother has practiced that too.... Sony 1st Gear March 31, 2007 Share March 31, 2007 sigh.. tall vehicle, short driver and no sensor used. Frankly, I think the parents have been punished enough over this.. nothing to say now..

Sony 1st Gear March 31, 2007 Share March 31, 2007 so the morale of the story is: when driver is short, and car is tall, you need to buy front sensor.. anyway, 8 pcs sensor (4 front and back each) is not expensive nowadays... But that is just a side discussion in this thread.

Qpik Supercharged March 31, 2007 Share March 31, 2007 no offence intended but those shortie who 1 2 drive such high car shd consider whether they will pose a safety hazzard to others... if die die hv to get such kind of transpo, do consider sensors, cctv to "see" their surrounding... hv my fair share of encountering idiot shortie drivers on such transpo who posed a danger to other road users when they can't keep to their lane, turn until eat into other pple lane, dun realise they r tailgating & going at high speed during peak hrs... Qpik Supercharged March 31, 2007 Share March 31, 2007 IMHO, regardless of gender... shortie should stay away from such transpo unless they are driving a bus... unfortunately, nowadays got more n more tai-tai also driving such kind of transpo with their half-past six driving skills...dun they know they are a driving hazzard...should bann them driving it...stick with smaller cc car ↡ Advertisement
