Prozac Clutched April 23, 2002 Share April 23, 2002 i went to Carrefour today but couldn't find the right colour... red. In the end, found it at the DIY shop VINMART. Cost me 13 plus for a small tin... is that the right one? No aerosol version huh? Any preparation to do b4 painting?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 23, 2002 Author Share April 23, 2002 $13 is thereabouts, I think Carrefour sells a tad cheaper. U'll have to clean the calipers thoroughly with brake parts cleaner or degreaser, then lightly sand the caliper and wipe with a damn cloth or use air blower to blow off the sand dust. Paint in thin layers and 4 layers will be nice and lasting

Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 23, 2002 Author Share April 23, 2002 The trick is to use moderate layering thickness to achieve the paint's glossy apperance. Don't use too much else the paint will dry in droplets.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie April 23, 2002 Share April 23, 2002 Easiest way is to jack up one side of your car, support it with jack stands and remove the wheels. In this way, you can paint 2 brakes at a time. Get ready some thinner to thin the paint a bit. Many layers is better than one thick layer. Use a Chinese brush for the front calipers to minimise smudging. BTW, my one small can has gone through 3 cars and there's still quite a bit left! Each car minimum 2 layers! Lightspeed Clutched April 25, 2002 Share April 25, 2002 I painted my calipers for around $30 bucks I think excluding the cost of the paint , one can around $10? and 1 can of degreaser as well...cannot recall how much...too long ago... Got it done at McWell with a friend... they do everything for you ... For me...it was ok... My friend wasnt very satisfied with the quality though...hahaha Too lazy to DIY lar ... Madarmour Neutral Newbie April 26, 2002 Share April 26, 2002 Here's my view. The calipers do not actually get too hot with usage, it's the disc and pads that gets hot and you're not painting there. That's why you don't actually need thermal paint on the calipers. However, for the drum brakes, they can get pretty hot as it is in direct contact with the brake pads. I've seen blistered paints on drum brakes.
