Turbocharged

Be careful if you're thinking of getting from who I think you're thinking of getting from.

I think there are only 2 units of MR2 Turbo (real deal turbo direct from factory) in Singapore. The rest are after market.

if you are thinking it can have a good fc then better forget it. Its also a bit tail happy at the limit due to its mid engine layout. Not very forgiving at the limit unlike the cars of today.

Just to share based on previous experience. I'm not sure if the engine spec is the same for between US & SG :-

1. FC - Not fantastic. It also depends on your right foot. Avg @ 220 km for half tank (based on Ron 95 @ 15 yrs back)

2. Handling - OK, but a bit tail happy on slippery surface for stock setup. The handling greatly improved with aftermarket dampers and springs. It will still understeer first but when it snap to oversteer, it is pretty arrupt and non progressive. A bit hard to catch unlike FR cars. However, the thresdhold is much higher compared with FF & FR cars in those days.

3. Engine - noticable turbo lag on stock and tendacy to sip some engine oil every 5000km. But I reckon that most will tuned it up with lots of aftermarket goodies. Servicing was done @ 5000 km ... (a bit KS).

4. Interior - classic mid-engine 2 seater layout. Pretty cosy and snug if the driver is big sized. Looks a bit dull in today's standard. Common problem is rattling on the CD box above the trans tunnel and between the occupants.

One of the issue with such car is that you need to put in lots of TLC and it may become a $$ pithole - hungry for more power / toys etc.

Nevertheless, it was a very fun car to drive and "affordable" - given that not many mid-engine car that have such performance @ 15-16 yrs back.

You got it right bro... [thumbsup] I think the last part is definitely correct. My friend did spend quite a bit TLCing it. It is small for anyone who is tall.

Is it for go at above 35k?

First, the price is expensive for a car tt u can drive to early 2011. Dep is so high.

2nd, MR2 turbo FC is real bad I feel.

3rd, maintance is gonna kill u. its old, turbocharged and riggy body. Worst still, parts are hard to find, and if there is, its gonna be expensive.

You might end up spending as much $$ on the mr2 than on a 2nd hand wrx.

PS: The white mr2 in Pang brother looks gd.

If you wan speed, might as well choose a civic eg6 or 9 for that age.

Maintance is high too, but at least parts are alot cheaper than a mr2.

Speed? A civic in NA form, can be real scary as well.

Hi all, sorry since I cant start a new thread I am gonna have to hijack a similar thread from the past.

Does anyone know the history of this MR2 for sale?

Genuine factory equipped turbo model or is it some BS from the dealer? I actually like the SW20, prefers its looks over the MR-S actually haha. But will maintenance be a big time killer for a car at that age?
