I have also switched from 40wt to 20wt since Saturday even tot I'm only at 7K.

I wonder how much improvement will I expect from the FC.

How's your FC after the switch?

A rule of thumb from a 50wt to 20wt are 6% engine efficiency gain, after minus the transmission losses, you should be expecting a gain of between around 3-4%.

Results can varies according to type of traffic condition, generally mostly highway type will gain more improvement then city driving.

for those who just got their new cars and want to protect the engine,

better to stick with higher rating oils first.

w20 is USUALLY meant for cars who has at least done their 10k servicing

the car might need ard 20kk to fully run in and a lower rating oil provides less protection for the engine.

guess there are different schools of thought.

some believe to the running in their car slower using higher oil rating

others felt that that it not necessary. pouring in 5w20 after their 1k servicing. [sweatdrop]

Today's engines are manufactured with greater precision and tighter tolerances than ever before. Try W20 and you will never go back to thick oils. [nod]

20wt gain 6% - minus the transmission losses gain 3%

30wt gain 4% - minus the transmission losses gain 2%

40wt gain 2% - minus the transmission losses gain 1%

The saving is small individual user.

However, it will be a big saving for big country like USA and Japan.
