PM Lee today annoucement that a more "comprehensive" ERP system is coming this year and "advise" drivers to take public transport to and fro work, and only use your car on the weekend "for a spin".

Just like to poll the general MCF reader's transporation usage level.

I stay in the east, and workplace in the west.

Drive to work = 30 mins.

Take Public transport = 1 hr 15 min, with bus-mrt-bus.

So I drive to work everyday, and almost 95% of my leisure time.

for those whose workplace is very far from home should drive as it reduce travelling time and can have more time with the family. taking public transport can be costly and very time consuming. [knife]

My car is used for meeting clients across the island, and other assignments. My meeting venues include flatted factories, industrial estates and even residential areas where public transport is virtually non-existent.

Before I bought my car, it was hell trying to book a cab when we needed it most. Sometimes no choice had to squeeze bus-mrt-bus combo, and frequently kenna 'tua-ed' by unexpected long waiting times and also the stupid bus moving at 20km/h (with no traffic). By the time reach destination energy already 1/2-gone.

So the car is a real necessity for us and our business. Furthermore our monthly expenditure on public transport already = our car monthly installment presently.

BTW if PM Lee/Transport Minister really want us to take public transport, they should lead by example whenever they can - maybe not all the time but 'show face' on bus/mrt every now and then. Good opportunity for them to experience 1st-hand the problems and interact with citizens/boost PR. [:)]

Somehow or rather, our Garment knows how to implement "comprehensive" ERP, but forgot that they also need to look at "comprehensive and efficient" public transport network system. For all i know, waiting 45 minutes for a bus is definitely not productive.

Agree with your comment that the ministers should set by example. What's more frustrating is, when they show face like "once in a few years", the photo on the newspaper always show them seated at the front seat with many of his gang ! The front part is isolated from the rest, so they do get the "Wow, got TV not bad hor. Wow ... the seat not bad".... but forget the rush to chase after bus, to squeeze onto the bus, worst, standing at the door, and have to squeeze in order for the driver to open the door !......

So much for "listening to the ground" ......

Drive car to and from work mainly.

Hence leaving time from company is not constrained to company bus schedule.

Almost never took public transport. Took bus/taxi only when car is sent for repair, which again, is seldom the case.

as what I expected it to come.....car price dropping and initial announcement goal of making most singaporeans to own a car..and implementing "comprehensive erp" thereafter

imo for people who bought car coz it's cheap but not for work or dun really need it at all, it's really a waste and heavy commitment for them in near future esp they have no allowance or simply earn just barely enough to pay for car installment and expenses..this "comprehensive ERP" surely is killer!

sad but unavoidable truth

They must had washed the bus before the ministers hop on. I just took a bus to IT show yesterday. It stinks even thought less than 50% commuters on board. and the bus drive like fiaking slow give me the feeling that the driver dragging the bus. So uncomfortable!
