Genie47 1st Gear March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Waste money lah! At 5k, they will drain the oil out again. Syn oil so expensive and you want to use it for such a short mileage. Very wasteful.
Ccssgm 1st Gear March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Hyundai.....Advise My Colleague to change It after 1K.........Later He change it... After 5K.......He visit again.......Also Change Synthetic Oil...... Wat the waste...........
Marcostan 4th Gear March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Engine oil is just like the blood in human being. I dun think it is a waste to give a good blood to your body. After 1K I am using Redline fully synthetic oil and change out at 5K and 10K after just follow to change every 10K.
Newsunny Neutral Newbie March 10, 2007 Share March 10, 2007 Agree with Genie and ccssgm, oil is hardly "stessed" after 4-5k km unless you do a lot of high-revs and long engine idling with aircon on. Don't waste your $$ on synthetic. Use synthetic at 10k km if you want.
Ccssgm 1st Gear March 10, 2007 Share March 10, 2007 Not Really......The Engine need Double Strength ..........
Panalogic Neutral Newbie March 11, 2007 Share March 11, 2007 i was told by my mechanic that if i were to change synthetic at 1k, i dun need the 5 k... Is this true?

Panalogic Neutral Newbie March 12, 2007 Share March 12, 2007 if this id true, then it's not so worthwhile to change the oil at 5k mineral mah? Won't it cost more money and hence why do most ppl still do it?
Swiftly Neutral Newbie March 13, 2007 Share March 13, 2007 It should be highly recommended. Better still add ZX1 metal conditioner to the engine oil and gear box oil. The con, higher outlay initially but you will gain in FC etc. My friend got a Toyota Pirus and he has been driving it for about 5,000km on mineral oil. He used to clock average 4.9 to 5.2 lit per 100km. After adding synthetic oil, he immediately got 4.5 to 4.7 lit per 100 km. All measured by onboard fuel computer. Lengendcf 1st Gear March 13, 2007 Share March 13, 2007 Engine oil is just like the blood in human being. I dun think it is a waste to give a good blood to your body. After 1K I am using Redline fully synthetic oil and change out at 5K and 10K after just follow to change every 10K. It's not like not wanting to give the best.. It's just that, before the 10000km, the engine parts need to run in. Use a thinker oil is better..

Seanboi 1st Gear March 13, 2007 Share March 13, 2007 Some AD are using 30wt mineral oils. Unlike last time where they used 50wt mineral oil.
Garunguni Neutral Newbie March 13, 2007 Share March 13, 2007 Seriously for run-in, its not about thin/thick or syn or not oil. Importance is in the ingredients (addictive package) of the oil. For run-in, high detergent capability and cleaning usually needed to effectively carry away the metal debris of the new engine. Hence, dino oil like Chevron Supreme can actually serve as very good oil for run-in with its high moly content.
Octopus 3rd Gear March 13, 2007 Share March 13, 2007 i was told by my mechanic that if i were to change synthetic at 1k, i dun need the 5 k... Is this true? I think its true, cos my colleague went directly to synthetic after the first servicing, so next servicing skip the 5k and went to 10k then service. But I feel its better to don't skip the 5k oil change, cos maybe still have some tiny metal fines remaining in a new engine due to running-in period, so better to change the oil with shorter duration... I think its also a good idea to change-out the transmission oil within the first 10k km due to wear particle of a new gear box.
Falc 3rd Gear March 13, 2007 Share March 13, 2007 One of those no right or wrong question. If you feel your car engine is sufficiently run-in by 1k, then use synthetic by all means, with next oil change at 10k. If you are more conservative kind, then do mineral at 1K and switch to synthetic at 5k.
