Dome Neutral Newbie April 24, 2003 Share April 24, 2003 [/reply]'m not sure what is the industrial practice.....Is it recommended to change to synthetic at 5000 or 10000?[/reply] Whether to use synthetic or not, it all depends on when you are going for your next service and also the money that you wanna spend Synthetic can last for 10,000km or 6 mths, mineral can only last for 5000km or 3 mths. So if you are planning for a next service after 5000km and you are trying to safe some $ then its good to chose a mineral. However if you don't mind to spend a bit more, you can choose a synthetic as well. My advice.... use a mineral if you are servicing your car at BM after every 5000km travelled. But if you are taking your car outside for servicing, then its good to use a synthetic, so that you will only need to service your car after travelling for the next 10,000km. Got it ? Luke721 Neutral Newbie April 24, 2003 Share April 24, 2003 I'm not sure what is the industrial practice.....Is it recommended to change to synthetic at 5000 or 10000? Hi, I'd changed to synthetic oil even before my Getz hit 5000k (it's still at 4700+ now) ... So it's really a matter of preference Don't worry too much on the filters - the mecs will know if there's a need for you to change. Also, do check your car for any scratches or dents before and after the servicing - heard a number of horror stories there
Snakeater Neutral Newbie April 24, 2003 Share April 24, 2003 Last time I asked this question before. I was told that for the first 2 servicings(normally 1K and 5K) no need to waste money on synthetic oil, as the interval between these 2 servicings is very short. Dome Neutral Newbie April 24, 2003 Share April 24, 2003 Oil filter should be change during every change of motor oil. For spark plugs, it depends on what plugs you are using. Some can last quite long , especially those that are expensive( example: spitfire). In general, if you are using a normal plug, then its advisable to change in every service , cos its cheap. But if you are using a performance plug which is expensive, then ask your mechanic to check if you need to change during your servicing. As for air filter, if you are using the normal type, then ask the mechanic servicing your car for advise. You don't have to change it in every service. Only change it when its very dirty, cos it will affect the breathing of your engine, thus causing increase fuel consumption. My suggestion.... change it in every 2 servicing "live life to the Max."
