Oldham Road Converted to One-Way Street

Hi all members of MCF

 

LTA had converted Oldham Road (beside The Atrium@Orchard) into a One-way street with effect from 06 March 2007 @ 10.00am. Vehicles from Orchard Road are not allowed to turn left to Oldham Road to proceed to Handly Road and to Plaza Singapura car park. (as reported at LTA Website)

 

Instead, vehicle coming out from PS car park could turn right into Oldham Road and then to Orchard Road.

 

With this changes, one have to proceed to Handly Road x Orchard Road (in from Cathay Theatre) to go to PS.

think it is better...as that road causes a jam with cars going in blocking buses and pedestrians crossing..and the numerous near accidents there

Does this mean we need to pay ERP twice if we want to park at PS? Exiting CTE via Havelock Road, there's an ERP gantry there. There's another gantry if you come in from YMCA side. Making a double turn before Le Meridien will take you to Orchard Road, and turning into Selegie Road/Handy Road, there's another gantry there.

YUP! Looks like ppl will avoid PS unless necessary...

 

anyway, I NEVER park at PS...I always park at Meridien...cheeper too

so the entrance is slightly further down. The turn after the previous one from Oldham road, then straight down to PS?

 

but for exiting, is still unchanged right?

Yes, can exit to Orchard Road only.

it has been aligned to be similar of those at Suntec.

with the proximity of the bus stop, turning left with only that 3meters of dotted line is like an amazing race challenge.

that is why it has an unspoken rule that the second lane is also a turning lane when necessary.

The dotted line for the bus lane just before the turn at Handy Road (Road into The Cathay and PS) is really only about 3 car-lengths. It will cause the same problems as the Oldham lane, if not worse, as there are already jams at the CP entrance to The Cathay, with people parking illegally on the left lane at Handy Road, and The Cathay's CP being full, jamming up the remaining right lane with cars trying to turn into it.

 

My guess is, the CP at The Atrium will be slightly easier to try to park. They should just also change the front part of Handy Road into a one-way traffic, since now most cars can exit from Oldham lane.
