Suv8 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 Yes sad but true. We would not like our employers to take advantage of us, would we? Like someone said, ' I'm your boss. Go wash my car at the basement.' What would you say? ' Sir, I'm not paid to wash your car' ? Likely he'll say, I pay you, so you damn well do as i say ! So does 'domestic servant's chores' includes washing the family car(s) ? How many hours do WE work in a day? Would we like a job that works us 14 hours a day, live in the boss' home, at beck and call to EVERYONE at the household 24 hours a day? Is'nt that enough, never mind having to lug heavy pails of water to spend the next 3 hours washing the car? And getting back to prepare the food for dinner, etc? Tired? We ought to try it ourselves. I have the same maid working in my household for 11 years. I never asked her ever, to wash my car. I think its unfair, unreasonable and exploitative. The lower income, the lesser-educated, are more vulnerable in terms of job security and I know many employers (especailly local !)expliot this vulnerability. Whether it is legal or not, we have a moral responsibility to protect the weak in society. I would rather spend $7 a week, or more often, to have my car hand-washed at some petrol kiosk. Offers employment to others as well. Of course if I can't afford $7 a week, I don't wash my car that often. Or wash it myself. Oh my aching back... Yes dear friends, we are all well educated here but do we have compassion ? ↡ Advertisement

Jchuacl Clutched March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 Mama lemon is dish washing liquid and it's ok!!! You'll strip the paint protection but you'll need to apply polish after that. I just saw 2 maids washing thier owners cars at the basement carpark...but what shocked me was I only see bottles of JIF, MAMA LEMON, WINDEX WINDOW CLEANER, what looked like a 3M sponge with the green scrub, ..... none of the usual car washing shampoo or wax...but all household cleaner stuff.... do u guys let your maids wash your car??? Maybe they are just making use of empty container for the actual Car Shampoo? Don't forget we have a lot of those "Budget Car Shampoo" packed only in some sort of "Plastic Bag Container" As for asking the Maid to wash the Car whether it's fair or not that's really depend on individuals. For Example : 1 Employer request the Maid to clean his Car twice a weeks. But, he also dine out twice a week and the Maid didn't have to do the Cooking, Washing Dish & etc.... To me, at least this is what I called it "Fair Enough" for both parties. But, for those who always exploit & make sure the Maid did every single available job I call it Unfair. Just my 2 Cents . . . Teva Neutral Newbie March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 I wash the car with my maid. She does the interior while I do the exterior. How's that?
Loki Supersonic March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 My Indon maid washes my car only once a week, on Sun mornings before she goes for her day off. If its raining, I will tell her to forget it. I don't understand people who insist that their maids wash their cars every day. My neighbour in my condo has two cars, his maid washes both cars every day. Plus on weekends, his maid also has to wash his relative's car when they come to visit!

Picantorian Neutral Newbie March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 dine twice a week???? oh boy u have not seen what i've encountered i saw 1 maid being made to sit outside of a restaurant while the family tuck in their food I have seen similar too.. this family was having their meals at 1 of the restaurants at Suntec City (near fountain of wealth). Poor Indo maid wearing the apron (uniform ) only had curry and rice ordered from the food court. She was made to sit at the corner of the table. I think that is really getting overboard. Nutty 4th Gear March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 My Sis-in-law and her family treats her maid like sh-it, while my mom treats her very well whenever she tags along with them to visit us. So much that the maid secretly asked my mom if she can work for us instead. Good for her that she's finally going back Indon to get married.
