Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 Just went for my 1st 1000KM servicing yesterday, and was top up with new mineral oil. was told to top up ONLY WATER, and not coolant in the radiator container(the white container, not the radiator itself). Anyone out there know what's the reason for not topping up with coolant, but only water? And why? When will be the best time to change to coolant? Will the radiator spoilt or damage last longer with water? ↡ Advertisement
Falc 3rd Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 Err ... (1) should "change" mineral oil, not just top up. (2) new car no need coolant or water top up, unles got leak. If small vol of topup, just with water is fine. HTH
Ngaiky83 Clutched March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 eeh.. what's your ride? I think depend on the agent ba. My FD changed to helix ultra & coolant at 1,000km because there was no need for the 5,000km service . But my friend who is driving a kia cerato, the agent will only change his mineral oil to synthetic oil at 10,000km Coolent i'm not sure abt his leh.. Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 1) Oh. Yeah, they changed new mineral oil. hehehee.. 2) No need coolant, or water??? then the container will be empty...won't the radiator be overheat, spoilt or damage without water/coolant? Toyo 1st Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 my ride coming to 3 years only need to top up coolant recently. if u use mineral oil for 1K servicing, u'll need to go back in another 3 months time or 5000KM whichever come first.
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 My ride is Honda Fit. My FD asked me whether i have vouchor for servicing, and i said "No", so he said then will just changed mineral oil, cos i will pay less for the run-in/new car. Maybe will change to synthetic when it reach 5000KM or 10,000KM.
Toyo 1st Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 i'm driving a honda city. what i did was to buy a 1 litre bottle of coolant from min ghee for abt $7.50 and top up myself
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 Yeah, i know about the 5000KM servicing when i went yesterday. But don't you need to top up water in the white container, even if you are not using coolant???
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 Thanks! but do you know what's the reason why my Techncian told me only need to use Water, but not coolant???
Route88 2nd Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 Your ride is still new. Other things like coolant, air con gas, brake fluid...doesn't matter now. See the manual on periodic change of oil. As for why water not coolant, basically our climate is more to hot and humid,so water is best to cool down the radiator.Coolant is apply 50% of volume on top of H20. Toyo 1st Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 The white container is for coolant. i nvr top up water in there. i thk water shld be top up at the radiator
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 i see. My manual is in Japanese wordings, so don't know how to read.
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 Huh? thought coolant should be top up in radiator and the white container? but if using only water...only top up in the white container, not the radiator.
Route88 2nd Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 OIC...so yours is JDM from PI? Servicing schedule should be across the board for all cars, almost the same bah
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 (edited) Yeah. it's JDM. I'm not so worried about the servicing as my technician has pasted a english note on my servicing book what needs to be changed on each KMs/servicing. Then only concern is how often do i have to top up the coolant in the radiator or the white container. what is the normal duration one needs to top up? once every 2 weeks, or once every few mths? Toyo 1st Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 from my understanding, the radiator will always be full as it will draw coolant from the reservoir (white container) whenever it runs low. i nvr open the radiator cap to check the level or top up. everything is done at the container. correct me if i'm wrong
Kozen Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Author Share March 2, 2007 I see. Thanks for all the info. So think the only thing i have to look out for is the check the water level from the reservoir once a week.
Route88 2nd Gear March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 The white container ,ders a dipstick ,if its in the range bet low/high should be ok,unless ders leak in radiator, then the level will drop drastically. No need to add coolant just water will do if no leak. After 2 years can flush the cooling system and change new water/coolant. ↡ Advertisement
