Sgnick 1st Gear March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 (edited) Correct me if i am wrong, but I tot aspec db is suppose to be a tyre high in comfort, low in performance, especially wet condition. People buy aspec db for a quieter ride, not for it's road gripping power. I used it before, really quiet as claimed. Can anyone recommend me any tyre which is as quiet as aspec db, and yet have high performance? I am rather concern about tyre noise. Fcw75 Hypersonic March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 (edited) Yokohama AVS dB. As quiet as Aspec dB but performance definitely better. Price too. http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/asia/Englis...ogue%2Fmain.jsp Edited March 3, 2007 by Fcw75
Vit4wd 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 first up1) straight grooves do squat for channeling water they just provide an avenue for water to flow, which still ends up under the block areas v grooves pump out water to the sides look at it like taking s.hit from ur room and put it in another corner, vs throwing it out the window 2) grooves too small 3) inferior compound 4) small thread blocks = more quiet = poorer roadholding So is a tyre thread/groove like this, that pumps out water via the side, better than the Yokohama Aspec in the wet? Vit4wd 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 I suppose you cannot hav eteh best of both worlds. Have to settle for something that is a reasonable compromise of your needs. In general, quiet tyres are never as grippy as those noisy tyres (due to thread pattern and compound used)
Modykoh 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 me was ex Aspec DB user before chaing to rev Spec 02.. personnel not skidded but just hear to many tales of been skided .. too real to be fiction....
Madsumm 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 Hehe.. that one use to climb mud hills.. Grooves are one thing, the compound used is another. Just wondering on F1. I use to run GSD2, older version. The GSD3 has 2 version, europe and thai. According to some comments I've seen, Thai suits SG weather more as the compound is "climatized" to our weather? True? Also, one of my friends tried and indicated that Europe feels better in terms of grip. I've not use F1 since that tyre change. Reasons being: 1) Darn noisy. V-grooves have they unique "rolling" sound 2) wear out darn fast!!! Ok, maybe its just me. It only lasted me close to 30k before balding the rear tyres. Its wear rate is 280, but it felt like 180 to me... haha Rgds
Furrynadz 5th Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 based on groove pattern alone yes assuming all other conditions equal and rubber compound similar

Furrynadz 5th Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 f1 feels more noisy compared to prev dz101 i used, but on par with es100 wear rate seems slightly faster also, obviously...lol
Madsumm 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 Hmm.. anyone using the Thai version of GSD3? maybe with the touted suited compound, it would be better? Rgds
Bluemice 2nd Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 i hv using, not of choice, but my tyre size(195/55/15) or even up to 17" are all now thai made, those fresh ones la, old stock dun count... so far so good ... hv not tried the german F1, so cant really make a good un-bias comparison. all i can say is at 100kmh wet / dry grip no diff... maybe wet feels betta. mice
Vit4wd 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 me was ex Aspec DB user before chaing to rev Spec 02.. personnel not skidded but just hear to many tales of been skided .. too real to be fiction.... Maybe those who condemn the Yokohama Aspec series of tyres have vested interest? ie. They are from competing brands? Personally, this tyre is not as bad as it is made out to be. Just my personal opinion as a user.
Vit4wd 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 So how would a tyre like the Michelin XM1 differ from the Yokohama Aspec dB? The XM1 has only 4 deep grooves as compared to the Aspec's 4 deep grooves AND 2 narrow grooves. Is it 'cos of the XM1's wider gaps at the sides that allow water to disperse, that enhances its grip in the wet?
Furrynadz 5th Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 dun bother abt the outer shoulder blocks, its the inner shoulder blocks that contribute more to water evacutation, look at the designs of other touring tyres such as cpc, c drive, primacy..etc end of the day its very simple, the more sea area compared to land area on the tyre contact patch the better the wet grip
Vit4wd 1st Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 So based on your assessment, Aspec dB shd have better grip in the wet as it has more grooves
Furrynadz 5th Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 nope xm1 has better compound and design, its a much newer model compared to aspec db to compare with xm1 should use dna-db
Bluemice 2nd Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 hi all, The TS only asked for "any personal experience" (see title), guess only those who hv used this tyre shld reply... other who hv not shld probably just listen, no need to add this / that. Anyway, its common for vested-interest-pple to lurk arnd in forums... way too many cheers !! mice ↡ Advertisement
