oomph Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 there's rampant talk about this tyre being lousy in the wet, skidding here and there, and I'm just wondering if there's anyone here who has skidded in the wet with this tyre. frankly i've never really skidded, but hydroplane a few times (straight line, no danger) and have been on many tires before, including aspec db. my worst wet weather tires seem to be continetal contact sports (model 2 i think, about 7 years back) that will skid as soon as it hits a wet cement patch in my HDB Multi storey carpark. i mean if it were really a skid hazard, it would be shelved, or someone's going to sue yokohama. so... Paddie 3rd Gear February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 (edited) I agree. I once drove my friend's Lancer with Aspec dB in the rain and it was frankly scary. I went through a relatively small puddle of water in a corner and the car just lost grip completely. Luckily I was still some distance from a kerb so I managed to regain control. I had driven through that corner many times in the wet before, in many different cars with different tyres, and none had such terrible grip. Since that day I never recommend Aspec dB to anyone. But I have to say it's damn quiet. Edited February 28, 2007 by Paddie
Route88 2nd Gear February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 Aspect DB is quiet tyres...if u dont drive hard during rain,it wont dissapoint you. Any tyre can make your car buang if they cannot control the car, even SO2....or crazy ppl endangered others by driving 2Fast for fark in the rain....see how the car goes at 100km/h on standing puddle of water
Green_carnation Clutched February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 i agree.. i m using aspec db.. in the rain is ok.. but with high speed in the rain i dunno.. as u mentioned any good tyres also can buang if driver cant control the car...
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 I was using the stock turanzas (which came with my lancer) for 8 months, until I traded in for 2nd hand sports rims with new Aspec db. The Aspec db not as good as the turanzas. My previous turanzas felt stickier during wet weather. Not that I race in the car. But, compared with the turanzas, the aspecs tend to skid in wet weather, if you are in hurry to go at the traffic light. Thats comparing with the previous turanza tyres. If I ever change my tyres, I will buy gr80, potenzas or some other tyres. No more aspecs for me.
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 (edited) Regular dry weather is ok. It could be better during wet weather. Read my other post. Just my opinion. Edited February 28, 2007 by Vesfreq
Sambuca Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 if the driver cannot control the car, he has a better chance surviving on S02 rather than aspect DB on a side note, dun think S02 is in production anymore. after that is S03 and RE01R(replacing RE070)

Ok, she admitted she was driving fast and hit standing water. But still . . .
Hlkh Clutched February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 hi my lancer come with Aspec DB. dry weather ok but rain is danger when on the paint marking on the road.. especially when raining in yellow box turning right at a cross junction, when u try to accl fast across the tyre will spin through out the accel across the yellow box. but still use till got pon pon sound at 50+kkm den change to DZ 101 feel grip even in the rain
Madsumm 1st Gear February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 S02 is available. There is a new version for S02 I belief. I think its called S02A or B. Rgds
Icekitten Clutched February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 The name of the tyre tells it all. Aspec Decibel. The focus is on the quietness of these tyres. Generally, tyres with better grip produce more road noise, and vice versa.
Madsumm 1st Gear February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 I do run at 100 during rain for S03 as well as my current CSC3. Aquaplanning almost nil. Yes. I mean it. Did not have prob since I changed to either these tires. Also, another fact. You do not need to fast to experience aquaplanning. Even at low speed. So, a good tyre will prevail and for you and your family to see another day. As with all my recommendations. I would recommend to spend more on a good set of rubbers then on a nice looking bodykit. At the end of the day, when you travel 40 or 100, its the 4 little small patch of rubbers touching the road the keeps you alive. Also, its not the brakes that determine your braking distance and effectiveness. .its your tyres. Rgds

Hilander4650 Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 aspec db is total rubbish la..me on goodyear eagle F1 just tried today on TPE with puddle of water at 120km/h sweee sweeee no horse run..hahaha...the red hyundai maxtrix behind me have a hard time trying to play catch up with me.. Sambuca Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 agree, tried eagle f1 before. superb in the wet puddles of water no worries about skidding. more worried about hydrolocking i'm now on re040, good on dry/wet and stiffer sidewalls but not grippy enough for hard launches going for re01r or a048 next

ASPEC DB'S POOR IN THE WET - FACT ?
