Guys,

I came across this featured article in the HotStuff magazine. Sounds interesting.

Comments if you please?

Cheers.

The writer makes interesting claims on power gains, that doesn't make sense to me. It'd be good enuff if the packing doesn't lower power. Anyway their website do not make any such claims... [sly]

why not? stock muffler should be restrictive to exhaust back pressure coz of noise, etc. i think stock muffler will be "operated" and stuff with these sport packing, which becomes less restrictive = increase in car performance. one good abt this packing, it actually reduce the muffler noise...sort of frenly in the sense.

actually there are quite a few local "operated" made muffler which is also stuff with similar stuff (steel wool) which are not noisy at all as compare to remus.

The 1st article mentioned of "free-flowing exhaust system". Are stock exhaust systems considered as 'free-flowing'? Maybe it only applies to aftermarket types..

how to be free-flowing and not noisy at the same time [sly] have you check out the price for this? i think the diff between free-flow and semi-flow are the design of the interior compartment for the muffler.

The article is kind of misleading since it implies that it is the packing material that gives the horsepower gains when actually it is the modification done to the standard exhaust that is responsible for that. The muffer packing is there just to provide the reduction in noise. Problem with these kind of mufflers is that they require repacking every once in a while after the packing material has disintegrated.

It is also apparent that the packing has to be used in conjunction with a repackable muffler, which i suppose out original muffler doesn't applies here.

Yeah you're right, unless like Hkfung says...the standard muffler is operated on to remove it's baffles which makes it a straight through. Then it'd be better to get a proper repackable one which would make the job easier.
