Owen_fan 2nd Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 Hi all , have quite sometime never logon to the forum. Need some advise from you guys here. I can feels my latio brake pedal vibrating when i place my foot on it (speed over 70km/h.) Last Saturday went back to do my 5k servicing & inform them about it. Was told by the service adviser that the rotor need to be skim, & it can only be done during weekday. May I know what do they means by rotor need to be skim? is that ok that I get it fix during my next servicing (i.e 10k in about 3 mths time), as the car is perfectly alright & I'm unable to send my car back to them on weekday. ↡ Advertisement
Vidz 6th Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 that's means... the rotor surface is no longer flat so they need to skim or resurface the rotor surface. normally done by 3rd party machining shop, that opens on weekdays only.
Highwaycode Neutral Newbie February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 New ride with 5k mileage and your brake rotor needs skimming...does not sound right? Not suppose to happen so fast. Think you should get them TC to rectify it....FOC. Probably defective rotors part/mis-aligned/installation.

Try_conti 2nd Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 brand new car & need to skim rotor ??? did you change anything ? suspension, wheels etc ... if everything stock, just ask them to either check alignment or change the whole brake set. After all, yours is a brand new ride.
Marcostan 4th Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 Brother, Are u always wash your rims & tyre immediately after u back from a trip? After a long or short trip the disk become super hot and if u pour cold water over it. This is the main cause to damage your disk rotor Skim is cheaper than replace and I believe TC will not give any warranty to u, because this is not factory defect. Snow007 Neutral Newbie February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 Hi to all, Newbie just join . I have a G7 toyota corolla and after servicing , the idle fluctuate alot around 900 to 1200 rpm then after some time steady at 800 rpm but when aircon fan cut in idle goes up again . can give clues to the cause. Btw about your rotor skiming at 5k . not possible the cause . I have same proble on my G7 and wac con to change new rotor by mechanic . Later found out is due to brke pressure pump faulty . My advise is ask to check if brake pressure is within spec . The have a computer printout to show you when they test it
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 I will make sure the same too. Skimming is a short term measure. If going to drive car for one year or more, better get a new set of rotors. Skim liao if one week cannot = money wasted. Might as well make it a one time painful exercise and get new rotors. My rotors after skimming still got sound. Should have gotten new ones. Skimming waste money one, unless the car going to scrap soon. ↡ Advertisement
