Ingy59 Neutral Newbie August 19, 2012 Share August 19, 2012 The receipt of Halfway House for the tiger beer and meal in 1969 brought back to me old memories of my father's Halfway House Restaurant and Nite Club. It ran from the 50's to the 70's. I spent many memorable experience at the nite club with my parents and siblings. People may not be aware but Anita Sarawak and Miss Malaysia performed at the Night club, the former before she became famous. Thank you for bringing back the memories. Mr.Foo ran the restaurant like a typical Chinaman of the era. It opened 365 days a year and worked from 11am to past midnight religiously all though those period except when Singapore had the riot in the 60's for a short period. It was patronized mostly by service personnel from Great Britain and other countries including Australia, Germany, USA plus of course locals.

Yattokame 4th Gear August 19, 2012 Share August 19, 2012 just wanna share a moment of serendipity my parents went to the singapore archives or dunno what to see some old photos at an exhibition. To their pleasant surprise one of the photos for bugis street included my grandfather (my dad's dad) eating at the mutton noodle stall (some people should know this stall). When he told the organizers they very gladly gave him a copy of the picture for free :) they stayed at Ark Lane, now gone, opposite the 7th storey hotel, now gone too. Spent the first few years of my childhood there so I do have some memories of Bugis street back then too.
Driver57 Neutral Newbie August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 Used to be called "CCK 13th Mile" right? I remember there was an open-air cinema there just before the T-junction (left leads to Tengah Airbase) There was a open air cinema there . . . . . We used to go watch a movie there when I was a NSF at SOA. At the traffic light junction now, there used to be a Shell petrol kiosk there and there was a coffees shop on both sides of the road, one before the lane/ road leading to the cinema and the other on the other side leading to SOA. Anyone from that camp during the 70s will know of the great Char Kway Teow stall at the coffeshop. Really brings back memories . . . . . . . . . talking about this place. Thanks for sharing those old photos.
